@Helium9 that could be the same statistic for my whole country
Nobody at my school has ever gone to Stanford; someone was accepted last year but opted to go to a school in my province instead. I’m trying to be the first I guess haha
@itfollows2014 Fingers crossed for ya!
@SingHar17 Fingers crossed for you too! Hopefully we see each other on the Farm
my bro’s year, 4 ppl got in but #s have been pretty low since… now its 1 or none.
We’ve had two in the past four year I been here. Last year’s girl got in through Quest Bridge and the year before recruited for water polo. Stakes are pretty high since three are applying REA from my school that I know of. (Most likely a couple athlete recruits as well)
good luck to everyone who is trying to break school traditions!!
my school has about 10-15 kids that get accepted per year out of about 90-100 kids that apply every year, so we’re technically a feeder school. my chances are significantly higher, but still not high
also, is it true that decisions are coming out on 10/9? or is that just a rumor? someone earlier in the thread mentioned that they’re always released the Friday before the listed date at 4pm PST
I’m not sure how this works and I’m curious; does the number of people that have gone to or been accepted to Stanford at your school affect your chances??
@itfollows2014 Well not directly, but studying acceptance treads can shine a sliver of more light on some things usually.
I am the only one who applied REA from my school: Tokay High. We had the Nor cal steam festival at our school last year, which had over 3000 people attend and hopefully put us on the “map.” Last year one person got in.
@itfollows2014 The general assumption is that if you have 20 people from your high school being accepted to Stanford each year, you probably have been exposed to a lot of good opportunities and experiences that can give you valuable EC’s and good hooks. If your school doesn’t send a lot or even any kids to “top schools,” then there’s a chance you haven’t been able to take AP classes, be in a lot of clubs, or play a sport in a good team, which means that you don’t have much on your app. However, this also means that you can talk about your struggles and how you want to change the situation, but the main idea is that if your school sends many students to “top schools,” you have a decent chance of being one of those students, compared to kids from schools that don’t have US News #10 colleges looking at them and their students.
@x4nder Over the past 7 years it has been the Friday before the given date at 3 or 4. In 2011, they came out on December 9th. With that being said, check @engagestanford on twitter 2 days before this Friday; they have announced the date and time two days early for the past few years.
@itfollows2014 I would agree with @SingHar17. Also if your school has a good “relationship” with the university, they are likely to admit similar numbers each year. For example, one or two students will get in from my school each year because they know the rigor and opportunities at my school. If nobody gets in from your school often they may not know what it has to offer. It’s hard to say whether that helps you or not…
@vasodys I want to say someone from Greece did get accepted last year. I don’t know anything about Cyprus though…
@Helium9 I know a half Cypriot who’s a junior at Stanford, but he was born and raised in the US
Any Indians here?
Two Greeks from my school are freshmen this year!
@SingHar17 @December9th2016 thanks for clearing that up for me! I’m from Canada, and I don’t think universities here do that, so that’s pretty interesting
Has anyone emailed the admission office about the decision date?
@moroccan99 Why would anyone do that? If stanford wanted to tell anyone they’d just announce the date xD
@vasodys Just to make sure that they will be released on Friday. But I guess this won’t change anything, I just can’t wait 5 days xD
