Is it weird that even though I (probably) don’t know any of you in real life and I recently joined this thread, I feel a certain connection between myself and other regular posters on this thread? it makes me feel so happy that I’m not alone in this eheuhehehe I hope we all do well how great would that be
then we could have a party in this thread lol i’m lame
@callmegray I definitely feel the same way! It’s so weird, but since applying to Stanford is like the biggest thing in our lives right now, it’s a thing we all have in common. For it to be our dream University means we are all fundamentally similar people and I really hope that if any of us get in, we meet each other at the Farm
Yeah, I have no idea what the anecdote is about, or what kicking your knees to the moon or putting them on the orange means.
Hey guys, I was wondering how generous Stanford is with financial aid for middle income students? Especially with siblings also in uni.
@tserm23 they will meet your financial need most of the time if you are an American.
I can’t wait until Friday - just hoping for a barrage of acceptances on this thread!
Me too
Quick question.
I recall reading (I believe it was on the common application) that we need to notify Stanford before making any changes to our course curriculum. That being said, next semester, I am gonna be taking a course different than the one I have written on my application. I do not believe that it could really affect my application, so I decided not to notify them yet, especially since decisions have probably been already made. However, suppose I get admitted, do you think they will truly care whether I take Multivariate Calculus or Discrete Mathematics? (I switched the former to the latter because Discrete Mathematics is more useful for Computer Science, my interest) Or am I absolutely wrong, and Stanford does not require any notification of changes at all? Thanks!
@Oscardinho Thanks for answering!! When you say American do you mean citizen or resident? In my situation, we could potentially pay for it, but we would be barely squeaking by.
@MyNameIsMichael Like you said, it wouldn’t matter by the time they make their decision. I’m not too sure myself, but when the time comes (like Jan or something) I would email them just to be safe. I think what they want to see is that you’re challenging yourself, so a switch from Mult. Calc to Discrete isn’t drastic. Good luck!!
@tserm23 Why thank you!
@tserm23 Also, financial aid is granted for all admitted students, whatever their need and citizenship/residency is. However, during the application review process, if you are requesting financial aid and are not an American permanent resident (green card), refugee, or citizen, they will take your request for financial aid into consideration. That is, it could potentially prevent you from being accepted. There are other types of eligible non-citizens too, you should look them up! https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/eligibility/non-us-citizens
(eligible non-citizens means that if they request financial aid, it will not be a factor during admissions)
Good luck
@MyNameIsMichael Oh so they offer financial aid to admitted students even if you don’t technically fall under the numbers they have on their page? I’m a permanent resident, but I’m worried about the need part since I’m not really classified under their need-based criteria (but it would be a tight squeeze to pay). #-o
@tserm23 if you are a permanent resident, you have nothing to worry about! Statistically, 100% of Stanford students receive financial aid that fulfills their needs. “Needs” does not mean that your family is living under a bridge - Stanford is quite understanding and considerate, so they will know how much to give you so that it won’t be a “tight squeeze.” Thus, yes, Stanford offers financial aid to admitted students even if they “don’t technically fall under the numbers.” It says that financial aid is granted “typically [for families with income] up to $225,000,” but it also says that you should apply for financial aid if you are concerned with your ability to pay - in any case, you’re a permanent resident, so it won’t hurt!
P.S. I mean, come on, it’s Stanford, would you really regret paying for it???
@MyNameIsMichael Awesome!! Thanks so much Definitely haha no regrets here at all
My S applied to Stanford, UCB, Umich, UIUC, Cornell, Harvard, Purdue (accepted), UCF (accepted with sizable merit award), UF, Georgia Tech, NC State.
Our high school football team will be playing State title game this Friday. So, all of us will be at the game:)
While my son will be busy with his marching band, I’ll surely be checking:)
IM GETTING REJECTED
@ASAPJAZZY lol ok
