Look, having a hook in admissions is pretty clear - legacy, athletic recruit, URM, first generation, and possibly developmental or celebrity status. Having a hook may give you a tip in admissions. In the case of a bona fide recruitable athlete the tip can be large but in other cases it may be small.
Everything else is NOT a hook but possibly something admissions officers may find interesting. I think everyone should stop referring to their specific situations as a hook if it doesn’t fall into the above categories.
I am not an applicant. What prompted me to the analysis was all those anxiety ridden post. Stanford or any other most selective institutions are not an end of life.
And the answer is no. Each app gets multiple reads with each reader placing comments. It’s hard for any one person to slide someone through the channel if they aren’t highly qualified to begin with.
@Oscardinho I’m from Cyprus, an island in the Mediterranean. @Helium9 It is a bit weird but it’s not that bad. I’ll put an alarm for release time and just get up to see so I can either have an amazing dream later or cry myself to sleep
@Helium9 come to Lohan, the club, on Friday! Our student council is throwing a party there. I’ll have fun 'till 3am, and try to have fun whatever the results are after that.
Popping in as the parent of 2 kids admitted last year. One REA and one RD. And neither ended up attending because in the end a better fit appeared for both. I will also say that the FA will meet your need. But if you don’t have much need, expect them to expect you to pay a lot of money. And any money you bring in in terms of scholarships first covers what they expect each student to contribute and then it comes out of the aid they have given. Your parents EFC will stay the same. Unless you get no FA at all. So while I know this is the dream school for many of you, or you wouldn’t have applied REA, getting in or not getting in can’t define you. And there may be something better coming down the road for you. Congrats for being the kind of kids who can even think about applying. And best of luck to you all.
