I constantly want to throw up whenever I think of Friday, because even though I know I can accept my inevitable rejection and come to terms with it, I still get occasional peaks of hope that ruin my facade of being “chill” about it and basically I’m ready to spew out all of my anxiety. If the results don’t come out on Friday… just might develop an ulcer.
Can I just get like a quick self-evaluation on the following categories from everyone here? I just want to see where everyone places themselves on the categories of Academics, Essays, Hooks, Extracurriculars, Letter of Recs, and Honors on a scale from 1-10.
I’ll start:
Academics: 10
Essays: 9.5
Extracurriculars: 8.5
Letter of Recs: 8
Hooks: 9
Honors: 7 (~ lol ~)
@futuredoc99 The general rule of thumb is that colleges value recommendation letters from people that add insight to your character, flaws, and achievements. Usually, if you get a letter from someone well known, influential, or on the staff, it’s slightly frowned upon UNLESS you actually worked with them, they know you well, and/or they write an incredible or personal letter.
@AznDude525 I’m doing it more for a before and after evaluation. No matter what happens, I will be posting my results on the official results thread. It will be interesting to see who among us gets accepted and how they ranked themselves. (for example, if someone gave themselves all 5’s but then one area is a 10 and they get accepted, that will be interesting for developing patterns in the future.)
Academics: 9.5
Essays: 9.5
Extracurriculars: 9
Letter of Recs: 10
Hooks: 0
Honors: 8.5 (nothing huge, just several small but meaningful academic awards)
I honestly don’t think hooks and honors can be placed at the same level as the other 4. Sure, they might be important, but they won’t define your application in the same way that the others do.
