Let us all hope for the best!
How much do recommendation letters help in admission.
I’m an intl. student.
I’ve got 1500/1600 SAT, 800 Math 2, 780 Physics, 4.0 Unweighted GPA, top 2% class rank, relatively strong extracurriculars in community service/volunteering, Model UN (international award), Debating and a lot of leadership (one of the head Prefects, President of Model UN club/ Debate Club, Vice-President of Social Responsibility Club - won 3 national community service awards).
The teachers I’ve asked to write recommendations are ones I’ve known for years and I’m sure they wrote incredible recommendations and my school principal wrote an amazing one as well. I also have a great recommendation from a Head Professor at a University Im doing research at as well as one from a very selective educational training commission in my country.
I applied to a lot of ivies but the chances are really tough, would the recommendations play a huge role as to get me into the university? Would they separate me from a lot of the other candidates?
Any ideas as to when decisions are released?
March 30th at 4PM PST
how do you know @MaybeHarvard2022
Hey, quick Q. I’ve seen all this stuff about likely letters here, but to my understanding aren’t those usually used to recruit athletes and also a small minority of extremely qualified academic students? I keep seeing that likely letters are for the “best of the best,” but that does not align with my understanding of likely letters from other schools… Maybe Stanford does things differently, but my understanding is that these letters are usually used to recruit people with athletic talent. Plz correct me if I am wrong…
@ThoughtWanderer likely letters are used for recruited athletes, but not exclusively. They are also used to reach out to highly desirable applicants who will most likely receive offers of admissions from multiple other prestigious universities.
@chrys1 looks as though decisions are going to be released on 4/1 at noon. They have a countdown page: http://allanxu.ca/stanford_countdown.html
Is that a verified Stanford page?
No, it is not.
I honestly doubt that they’d release on Easter.
I had found it and bookmarked it awhile back not even thinking to validate it’s source. Sorry, just hit the FB button on the top and took me to some profile of a kid named Allan Xu so no, it’s definitely not a Stanford page and therefore can’t vouch for the date and time. Sorry again.
I mean, NYU is releasing on Easter. It wouldn’t be too strange.
Stanford has never released in the past few years after March 30. I mean, this year, everywhere is releasing late, but that is historical fact.
Easter and April Fools Day… just doesn’t seem like a likely release date.
I don’t think they care if it’s April Fool’s Day or not. It’s not like they’d actually send out flawed decisions as a prank.
Decisions aren’t going to be released April1st. When have they ever been released on April 1st? Stanford has consistently released on the last Friday of the month for the past few years and will do so again. March 30th @ 4PM PST.
Look for Stanford Admissions to announce their release date via twitter by early next week. They did same last time. @EngageStanford
Hey guys, as we’re approaching the release of the decisions, I’m rereading my essays just to reflect and I’m freaking out. I wrote my “what’s meaningful to you” essay on my role as a big brother , and reading back I actually depict myself in a negative sense, as our relationship hasn’t been great, but it has improved as we’ve both grown older. I originally intended to communicate my growth and the importance of personal relationships, but it seems like I showed myself as someone who has petty arguments with their sister. How bad could this essay potentially affect my overall application? Thanks in advance.
@jbar30 I mean, I’m sure you get points for honesty… but really, these are brilliant scholars reading your essay. I’m sure they get what you were going for
