Stanford Class of 2027 Official Thread

Does anyone know how many days before results does the admissions committee stops deciding. I’m just curious.

Yeah, I would be curious as well. Would they be still deciding or all decisions are already made right now and just waiting to be posted. What is the rough cut off?

Admission decisions were likely completed a few weeks ago. They need to “shape the class” after that, before reaching final yes/no/WL decisions. They’re not going to be making decisions at the last minute.

What’s the difference between making admissions decisions and shaping the class?

This is how it works at most selective schools - I don’t have inside knowledge of the Stanford office specifically but it very likely does the same.

There’s an initial admit/reject decision made on an individual (applicant by applicant) basis. Then they look at all the potential admits - at this point they typically have many more than the number of offers they can make. That’s where shaping takes place where they look at institutional priorities, and what they want the overall class to look like.

Here’s where they might say “we definitely need that trombone player”, “we need to trim back on New Jersey so we can take that Nebraska kid and that other one from rural Arizona”, “that kid’s research is really interesting - we definitely need to have her”, etc. That’s how they trim the numbers down to where they need to be. They then send offers to the ones that made that cut; and depending on the college - others might be rejected or waitlisted.

I don’t think the interview really means anything at Stanford. Don’t worry about it. That said, Stanford is a total long shot for everyone.

sorry if this was already answered but does anyone know when Stanford results are expected to be out? I see some comments about maybe March 31 or maybe April 1 but nothing that seems confident, does anyone know for sure?

No one knows for sure because Stanford has yet to announce anything. 3/31 seems very possible based on previous year pattern (day after Ivys) but it’s not a sure thing. Everything else is total speculation.

they release on Saturday?
also does anyone know if Stanford does waitlist or accepts for Spring semester?

Stanford doesn’t accept students for spring, they are on the quarter system. I don’t know about waitlists, but even if they did, the yield rate is over 85% which would not bode well for waitlist movement.

My son is an international student at Stanford (not a recruited athlete) and he got into Stanford with significant aid (65%) as well as into 5 of the Ivies. I know other students from UK who get into these institutions with financial aid. Financial aid varies depending on parental income and assets, and international students who require financial aid can be admitted.

Hi Nitu, my friend applied for financial aid and her son was admitted into Stanford as an international student, he also got into Yale and UPenn. Although they applied for financial aid, they were admitted with no aid following assessment but following appeal, the fees were reduced. My son is also an international student who got into Stanford and other elite universities with financial aid. If the student has a really strong profile, requiring financial aid does not hurt your application.

We are in the UK. Hope this helps.
