Business - I created a business in middle school (revolving around the game Minecraft) which earned almost $50k. I created my own website & forum, marketed my product, invested (I once paid $1,600 to an advertiser and got $4000 back in revenue in return), advertised through different unsaturated mediums, hired and interviewed my own volunteer staff, and handled public relations.

My other business is now being commissioned by my school clubs for fundraisers. It has earned $800-900 since january 2016. The important thing about this business is that it’s more realistic in the world today. The company has insurance, an attorney, and FDA approved products. We also have a SSLsecured website designed by me. We have been approved to sell on amazon now, so I think our revenue will expand much more.

My third business went to JA Nationals this year and won the EY Social Innovation award. We design websites and apps and one of our apps won the congressonal award. We have a team of 20 members and I personally probably designed 10 websites. REV: $4500

My other EC:
Viola - Minnesota Youth Symphonies top orchestra since 2013, school’s chamber and orchestra, and quartet groups. Three years at the U of M quartet camp “Bravo”. First chair usually #leadership . Also went to Allstate this year!

Social justice club (~40 members)- co-Founder/co-captain. Super passionate about this. Like getting girls like me into tech & business, equal rights and opportunities for different races and social classes, etc. We discuss certain topics every week like cultural appropriation, feminism, objectification of women, current events, etc and we have outreach events.

Tennis - ranked #11 (Girls 18) in Minnesota. Captain of the program and have been on varsity team for 3 years. Team sectional finalists and champions (2015, 2014).

Art & literature magazine
Founder & editor in chief. Produced an awesome art&literature online magazine this year. 130 works submitted, 55 in the magazine, jurored by teachers.

Web design
Created a ton of websites (15ish?). Created one for a medical organization at Stanford, my city’s police department, local immigrant busineses, and a check out software (and more). I have my own website and I made the websites for my other companies.
Math team (4 years)
Science Olympiad (3 years)
Some game on (scratch programming) awards

ART:
MN State Fair Grand Prize: 3rd, 6th, 8th, 9th grade.
MN State Fair 1st Prize: 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th, 9th grade.

2006 National Youth Art Competition 3rd Place

2016 Best 100 Junior-Senior Scholarship Award ($200)

Tennis - most influential + most improved x3 + leadership award in tennis.

Science olympiad - 1st place at national invitational x3. Team won 2nd @ nationals.

Should I crap shoot to stanford?? Or try for Columbia/ Yale/ Harvard?
My essay is about my minecraft stuff.

PS my brother is at Stanford… legacy???

Honestly go for Stanford if that’s your #1. There’s always a small chance but I think your extracurriculars should give you a fighting chance.

Thanks @Rebecca1212
Really hope I have a shot. I’m submitting an art suppliment and writing about my other company (sells wearables).

Dang! That’s impressive. I think you definitely have a great shot for admission to Columbia! Not too sure on the others, though. Sorry!

Your stats are fantastic and your ECs just as good. For you, honestly it depends on what you like. Stanford is a lot different than Columbia. Do you want to live in the heart of a city like Columbia? Or do you prefer a more peaceful environment like at Stanford? Whichever direction you choose, there is no wrong decision. I would go Stanford, but that’s my opinion.

Your chances are really high compared to a lot of other students since you show an extremely high degree of initiative and depth in your extracurriculars. Your academic stats are also competitive enough. I hope you get into all your top school choices :slight_smile:

Thank you all for my comments!! Any more feedback would be appreciated :stuck_out_tongue:

If you applied REA to Stanford I’d say you have a phenomenal chance, considering that you’re essays were genuine/humble/etc. Stats wise, top notch as the same for E/C’s. Make those essays shine and I believe you’ll have some great choices to make this spring :wink:

Wow, your ECs are spectacular - I wonder how you had time for all of these! But yeah great application. I’m not sure if Stanford takes into account siblings’ attendance for legacy, but it wouldn’t hurt to apply REA. Good luck and I know that you’ll continue to do great things!

If you want your business ECs to weigh heavily, then apply to Wharton/UPenn, or other places that have undergrad business programs.

@CiteYourSources
Thanks for the advice! I applied there :slight_smile:
Essays I thought stood out. Though I did take a socal stance and I’m not sure how that will affect my app :o

@vnv2799 thanks :slight_smile: yup, having a tiger mom sorta helps shape you into having better time management lol :stuck_out_tongue:
@fauve I’m thinking of applying to Wharton or M&T at Upenn too!

I appreciate any more thoughts!

A college admission board member told me a secret last year. “Schools like risk” its hard to differentiate beween high performance people such as yourself ex: 4.0, 800s, AP, etc. They look at your hobbies/extra curriculars to determine personality heavily. A good risk taking example would be racing no seat unicycles over hot coals on the weekend. Its a real think i checked haha. Add some risk to your application.

Being a risk taker means youll be able to leave college and maybe start a business or reinvent something instead of the status quo.

Something to think about.

Be Great!

@fa18fan
That’s reassuring!! I took a ton of risks in my essays for sure.

Like I included:
Trump poem, my personal experience in sexual harassment (changed the name of the predator to “Brock”), Minecraft business, etc.

You look like a great candidate for UPenn Wharton

@silas1829
Thanks. Not sure I want to go undergrad in business because I don’t think business is really a hard skill (compared to engineering or compsci)

I think if you really took those risks in you application … schools will not take you seriously

@ClarinetDad16
Out of curiosity, how come?

You need the Adcom to advocate for you. If what you wrote about offends them they will not. And you are done.
