Hello, I am going to be entering my Sophomore year of high school this fall (I know, it is extremely early to be thinking about any of this, but some of the questions I have will affect my decisions about summer programs to participate in, hs classes to take, and etc.), and my main interests are English and Writing!
I understand that over time my interests will change, and who knows, by senior year I might do a 180 and start majoring in Bio or something, but as of now I am thinking about majoring in Communications. If anyone has also chosen Communications as there major at one point or another, I’m curious to know more information about the courses, specifically how much writing is involved, if the courses (in your opinion) are interesting, and etc.
I am also interested in possibly double majoring or minoring in Journalism, Business, or English, but I’m not sure. Although I might change my interests, if I have an idea of what I want to major or minor in, it will help my decision in choosing between a Journalism elective, or a CPE class. Or if I want to participate in USC’s intro to business summer program, or UCLA’s creative writing summer program, and etc.
Furthermore, if anyone has any insight they’d like to share about their experience with any of these programs at Stanford (my dream school!), I’d really appreciate it! If anyone has any advice about choosing between a double major and a major + minor, that would also be super useful! And last but not least, if anyone has any advice about other practical majors and/or minors that someone with an interest in English, Literature, Writing, History, and etc. would be interested in, I’d love to hear!
Thanks for taking the time to read this post!
