<p>Early</a> apps suffer slight decline - The Stanford Daily Online</p>
<p>That makes me very happy!</p>
<p>Official SCEA Stanford Stats
Applications: 4551
Accepted: 738 (16.2%)
Deferred: 982 (21.6%)
Rejected: 2831 (62.2%)</p>
<p>"Abbott explained that Stanford tends to reject a relatively high percentage of its early applicants and that deferrals to regular decision are reserved for highly qualified candidates."</p>
<p>So, for those of us who have been deferred, don't give up hope! We were in the top 38% of all early Stanford applicants, which should be taken as a great compliment! We are "highly qualified candidates," at Stanford, so even if we don't make it into Stanford come April, we should all still expect some other nice acceptances.</p>
<p>Don't give up hope, but do put your heart in all your other applications, and you'll have some nice choices in the spring with or without Stanford.</p>
<p>Just the opposite of the CC results!</p>

I definitely like not being forced to enroll at Stanford like an early decision program [which Harvard had previously] would do, Lindsay said.

<p>Harvard has never has early decision.</p>

In fact, Yale and the University of Chicago each experienced 30 percent increases in early applications, while Stanford saw a slight decrease.

<p>UChicago saw a 42% increase.</p>

While yes, Yale did experience a significant increase in early action numbers this year, its important to note that they experienced a significant drop in applications last year 500 to 1,000 and are now only rebounding to where they were before, Abbott said.

<p>Yale dropped ~500, which was 13%. This year the numbers increased ~900, an increase of 36%. With numbers taken over two years, Yale early applications increased 20%. They "rebounded" much higher than where they were before.</p>
