Don't bash me if this thread has already been started. I just wanted to let everyone know that IF you started an application on Common App for Stanford and didn't submit it/remove it from your colleges list, you still have until Jan. 3 at 11:59pm to submit it.

*I got a really nice e-mail from them confirming it...I'll gladly paste the message if anyone thinks I'm trolling.

…I feel cheated now. I know that my intellectual vitality essay was sloppy and just had too many other essays that I couldn’t properly revise it. Rah.

But I don’t understand. Their Office of Undergraduate Admission will be closed December 20-January 4.

“Please note that Stanford will be closed for the holidays beginning Friday, December 18 at 5pm and we will not re-open until January 4. While our offices will be open to receive and process mail, we will not be open to answer phones and assist with application-related inquiries. As a result, candidates for admission are strongly advised to submit their applications well in advance of January 1 deadline.”

It’s incredible to me that they would not bend the rules when the students were late, but when it’s their actions, they can change the rules when they want. It’s not fair for the reason that Conquistador said… he played by the rules as stated and did not have the advantage of more time that these other students will get.

SDonCC: why do you think they already don’t bend the rules and are humane in the way they treat applicants? What evidence do you have that they are harsh with people who are a little late?

They spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on recruiting and soliciting great apps. You think they mistreat applicants? How? Now you bash them for even extending extra time for stressed applicants?

T26E4, no need to bash. If you read the late application thread people talked about how Stanford wouldn’t consider 1000 apps that were submitted after the deadline last year. “Late” could mean a little time or more, and it made it sound like Stanford is really strict with these things.

SDonCC isn’t saying they mistreat their applicants, just that they think it’s unfair to those who rushed at the last second to submit thinking it was the final deadline when in actuality they could have had another day or two. Although then, those that submitted that late can only blame themselves for procrastinating but I can see why they would be angry that Stanford is giving another chance to those that are even bigger procrastinators than they are.

right, i was posting this based on what I read about what Stanford did to the late applicants last year. In any case, my kids are not considering or applying to Stanford, but I just felt compelled to respond. It just seemed a bit hypocritical that they could be so strict about their deadline last year but turn around and change it last minute this year.

I’m actually curious as to what the email said. I rushed to finish the vitality essay, and would gladly have taken the extra days. I know it’s my fault for waiting until the next day, but still.

I’m curious as to what the email said as well because I find it hard to believe Stanford would actually extend their deadline. I just googled it and I didn’t find anything official… And I didn’t get this email either…
