Stanford, do I have a shot?

My number one is Stanford, I visited this summer during a family reunion and it was amazing, perfect school for me.

I think I might be in trouble because of my grades. They're good, just not incredible. Rates are low for kids without gpas about a 3.75, but I'm always told by teachers and peers that my grades don't accurately depict my abilities. Any tips on how to show this to adcoms?

Anyway,

-I have a 3.730 unwtd gpa, and I'm not a minority or an athlete.

-I go to one of the best public schools in the state (which isn't saying much coming from Louisiana) and I'm in the top 10% at 21/377.

-I own and operate my own tutoring business (like sylvan but local, way cheaper, and way more effective), for which I created a website.

-I got a 4 on my art ap exam, and will be taking 4 more ap classes (most I can take)

-I'll be an Eagle Scout by the time I apply.

-31 on the ACT, and will be taking some SAT subject tests.

-Band- Section Leader and First Chair (band is recognized nationally)

-Senior Patrol Leader for my BSA troop (thats the highest position)

-other ECs- Student Government, Art Club, Beta Club (photographer)

-plenty of community service

Schools I'm applying to

Stanford
Rice
UC Berkeley
Carnegie Mellon
Cal Tech
MIT
Washington State in St. Louis
Vanderbilt
Case Western
Tulane

sorry for the typo, it’s ‘above’ a 3.75, not about

…bump =/

Yeah, sorry to break the bad news, but you are most likely not getting into stanford. Your gpa and scores are way too low. However, you have a slight chance if you improve your scores and do really well on your subject tests. You have really good ec’s, so you should play those up in your essays. UCB is a reach because you are out of state. A lot of their applicants are california residents who have similar or better stats. I think the only true safety you have on your list is Tulane. Almost everything else is a reach. Best of luck.

Louisiana will help. Try to raise the ACT or try the SATs. It’s not out of the question with higher scores.

Why post when you don’t know? Vandy a safety?

NONE of those schools are safeties.

i don’t see the point in posting safeties. the whole point of safeties is to be sure you’ll be accepted.

Stanford - reach (but you never know, give it a shot. you may get lucky!)
Rice - match
UC Berkeley - reach (OOS)
Carnegie Mellon - match
Cal Tech - reach
MIT - reach
Washington State in St. Louis - high match
Vanderbilt - match
Case Western - match
Tulane - match

To get into top tier schools, you will have to raise your SAT/ACT scores. Your GPA is competitive, just keep up your grades senior year. Good luck!!

The ignorance on this forum is incredible…

Stanford - no
Rice - reach
UC Berkeley - reach (OOS)
Carnegie Mellon - high match/low reach
Cal Tech - no
MIT - no
Washington State in St. Louis - reach
Vanderbilt - reach
Case Western - IDK
