Stanford EA Chances?

Hi, I am a CA senior and applying to Harvard, Stanford (SCEA), MIT, Caltech, UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC Davis, and UCSD. I am considering an Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a Pre-med major (probably Biology or Chemistry). What are the chances that I'll be able to get in? Our graduating class is 350 people, and about ten are accepted to Stanford each year.

OH man, Stanford hates kids who take hard classes, do great EC activities and have high SAT scores. I would say your chances are slim. I'd say somewhere around 13.5%.

My classes aren't exceptionally hard, nor are my EC activities and SAT scores that great. But if Stanford does indeed hate those high achieving people, then what type of applicant does Stanford love? Stanford has always seemed to accept interesting applicants from our school: our Valedictorian from a year before, a state track athlete who won first at States (coincidentally received a full scholarship even before she applied), and two or three others from this year who, I assume, have some sort of outstanding extracurricular activity (most likely in the form of athletics).

I think Ashveer was being sarcastic..:)

All your honors and distinctions aren't going to make too much difference because there are only 8 spaces and none of them seem overly prestigious. Hope you have good teacher and counselor recommendations.

By the way, a 2160 isn't especially high...

I didn't think it was either. :D That's why I'm retaking this weekend.

I know my chances into Stanford are slim, but it never hurts to try anyway. 13.5% would actually be my guess too. :p Still, if I somehow do get in, I'd be ecstatic.

dt408sc02: If you took my first post seriously, you sorta lack the "critical thinking skills" that are needed at a place like Stanford.

What do you want from us?? All we can say is: you look strong, apply. Seriously now.

It's not the "critical thinking skills" that I lack. I didn't think you were joking because from what I saw, Stanford tended to pick people who had a specific extracurricular activity that they were extremely good at (eg: a sport, a musical instrument, etc.), something that stands out. Of course, there were plenty of people at our school who had extremely rigorous academic coursework and got in as well.

Ah well, I already submitted my Stanford app anyway. What's done is done, and I might as well just wait and see. Thank you Ashveer and Goldfish for the comments.

Oh yeah, would anyone like to read my Stanford essay? I'd like a couple opinions on it so I can see what I need to work on.

hm i'll read. (If you applied EA, why are you still editing? Are you using it for another school? In that case, gimme the prompt, too. Thx.)

Ashveer you're funny =P

Well, even though I already turned in my Stanford essay, I can still improve on my writing. Getting any type of feedback from other people on your own writing is extremely helpful and helps you become an better writer; in other words, asking other people what they think of my essays, even if I've already turned them in, will help me write better ones in the future.

Oh, and cortigiana, if you would like to critique my essay, just PM me.

Haha cortigiana, everyone likes a chuckle.

Sure, I'll read your essay dt.
