Stanford EA is gonna be tough

It's always damn tough, and it's ridiculous to even expect to be accepted (unless you were in the Olympics this year). Just focus on yourself.

if your grades could use the benefit of senior fall, DO NOT do early. it's quite possible that they'll defer you simply to see your senior year grades or reject you for it

im not applying to standford but good luck!

i am... stupid application wont let me write anything before it cuts it off

Stanford's EA is gonna be very tough, and if you are still not happy w/ your application (for example you SAT I and II scores) then I suggest you wait and do regular decision.

if someone were to pull out of stanford EA (just, write them a letter, right?) and go RD, would that reflect badly on their application?

Stanford will mirror Yale's accept/defer/reject stats, I imagine. Last year Yale EA seemed relatively split 1/3 of each... but I don't remember off the top of my head.

someone said like you're most likely to get deferred anyway if you're applying EA and do not have strong stats. does this mean i should just go for EA if my stats are average

downindreams: yale ea last year: ~16.5%admit, 44%defer, 39.5%reject or something close to that

^ Stanford rejects around 70% EA...it does not in anyway mirror stats at Yale.

I didn't know that many were rejected early! Are those mostly people who had no shot but were applying early to try to increase chances, or what?

I like the way Stanford does it, actually. These schools only accept ~10%, so most deferees are going to be rejected. And if I'm going to be rejected anyway, I'd rather be rejected early than deferred and THEN rejected.

Personally I'd rather be deferred just to have another chance at the school. But even if I'm rejected EA, I still will not regret applying early to the school that is my clear cut first choice.

Well, anyone would rather be deferred than rejected. But if you're deferred and have no shot at RD either, then what's the point? It's good that they don't give people false hope.

Then again, being deferred means you have time to improve your app and add new things.

yeah so Stanford's deferral is better than like Harvard's since Harvard deferrals most applicants EVEN though they will probably get rejected anyway. Well if you get deferred by Stanford, you'll at least know where you stand.

do you happen to know how many go from defer->accept?

I don't know about the rest of you, but I am getting very ****ed very quickly at the stanford app. For the section about honors/activites and such, it lets you type about 6 or 7 words before it stops you. I cant even explain my accomplishments properly! What are you guys doing about this because its getting to be really frustrating.

just curious... where do most of you live? I'm in MA and people just do't usually think of stanford when applying

that said, I'm applying too... :)

needhelp - gddmn!! me too...how infuriating. I'm using a paper app.

wow!!! reading posts like these scares the heck out of me...stanford rejects 70% of the EA applicants!?! yikes, i'm dead. what kinds of people make it in the first round? just the super brilliant, crazy talented ones, or do they leave any room for some mediocrity? Blah, college apps are the devil :(
