Has anybody else heard back/applied?
Applied no news yet
No news yet either. The website says that it should come by May 1?
I got in for History of Life, but I think they’re releasing general later.
I got in for history of life too @topaz1116 but Idk whether to do nih or this now
Didn’t they ask to send decisions for whether you’re going by yesterday (for Stanford)?
That’s what they did for me.
@topaz1116 They asked by May 1 i guess i got off the waiting list lol
@swiftyfan13x are you more into biology or the History of Life stuff? That’s what I’d decide it on. I’m rejecting COSMOS for Stanford because I’d rather do science than math (I was accepted into the Number Theory and Discrete Math cluster).
Selectivity-wise, I think they’re pretty similar–NIH is around 16% and Stanford 20% (although it could have gone lower this year).
@topaz1116 I really want to do neuroscience but the thing is that flights, rooming, and food for nih is going to end up being around 4k. Plus, my mom worries that I will get into trouble since I’m there alone for about 7 weeks. Stanford is closer by and cheaper but I don’t really like earth science as much and it conflicts with a camp I already confirmed for (unless the program director can somehow excuse me for the last 3 days)
Hm…
Note that History of Life is evolution, so there is some bio (actually, quite a bit, if you look at the old blogs; personally, I aim to go for more of the geological aspect). But with your interests, NIH seems better.
Do you get a stipend for NIH? That could offset some of the cost.
If you don’t like it, don’t do it. It’s not worth it. Honestly, there’s no point in doing a summer program if you won’t enjoy it.
