Stanford Engineers!

As the Orientation Week is only 1 week ahead, I now have a rough idea of what courses to take for the first year, so that I can major in Mechanical Engineering. I'm sure there are other potential Stanford engineers.

Regarding the science requirements for engineering majors, do I still have to take 3 science courses at Stanford in addition to the AP credit that can place me out of quite a few science classes to fulfill the 'depth requirements'? Also, what are you guys planning to major in engineering? At the moment, I'm thinking about Mechanical Engineering, but might choose Electrical. Thank you for your attention!

AP credits count, according to page 198 of the Stanford Engineering Handbook 2004-2005:

"Advanced Placement (AP) credits apply toward both the university 180-unit requirement and the School of Engineering requirements in Mathematics, Science, or Computer Science. AP credits in mathematics are accepted only if the parallel Stanford courses are skipped. Thus, a student cannot receive 10 units of AP mathematics credit and then enroll in MATH 41; to apply these AP units at Stanford, the first mathematics course taken must be beyond the MATH 40 series, typically MATH 51. AP credits in Computer Science will be accepted only if the student completes a Stanford course that is more advanced than CS 106A. AP credits in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics are accepted as satisfying the School of Engineering Science requirement."

Thanks for the post. So, I don't have to take 3 science classes just to satsify the depth requirement for engineers. I guess now I have more room for other interesting IntroSems.
