Do online classes (like multivariable calc) fit under the parts of college applications asking for college courses taken?

No.............

Oh, how come? I'm just curious since I thought they would fit there.

I would contact EPGY and ask them how students generally list courses like that on their college applications. I'm inclined to think that menloparkmom is just wrong about this, but she may have good information she's not sharing. Anyway, look into it yourself.

Did you take it in high school for high school credit? If so, list it as a high school course.

EPGY was initially started as an online enrichment resource for gifted younger students who wanted challenging courses in Math and Physics . Last year EPGY was expanded to offer a wide range of classes in many subjects for advanced students in High school. Students do not get college credit from EPGY or Stanford for classes taken online. But you should list them under additional academic activities, or as classes for HS credit, if approved by your HS. Make sure your GC mentions in his letter of recommendation that your have challenged yourself academically outside the classroom by taking EPGY classes.

Oh ok. I listed it under my Math related activities. I wonder if I should send a transcript to the colleges I'm applying to as confirmation... though I only got a B+ for the multivar differential calc course.

Listing it under Math related activities sounds reasonable. Sending the transcript also sounds like a good idea to me.

Not to get into a flame war, but I think this is misleading: "Students do not get college credit from EPGY or Stanford for classes taken online."

What the EPGY website says is that if you matriculate at Stanford, you WILL get college credit for the university-level courses you take through EPGY. It also says that they issue an official transcript, and whether you get credit at another institution is up to that institution. Which is how it always is with transfer credit.

Anyone know about summer EPGY courses and credit? My D did a three week course, has a detailed written evaluation, but no mention of credit, nor did we expect any, but this thread made me think about it again...

"Transfer" credit and credit for classes taken online, or at a summer program, etc., etc .while in HS are 2 different matters. Transfer credit is for students who have matriculated at a college. This is with regard to colleges other than Stanford, which runs the EPGY program, and would be expected to grant EPGY credit to students accepted at Stanford U.

Thanks menloparkmom.
