Stanford EPGY

Has anyone in here enrolled in any of their advanced classes? I'm planning to enroll in either Modern Algebra/Real Analysis. Looking at their prices (!!!), I'm wondering if it's worth shedding that many dollars.

It’s not worth it if you’re only interested in padding your resume (because it doesn’t help for admissions). It’s worth it if you’re actually interested in learning something (because you will).

Have you taken classes yourself? I’m not really concerned about “padding my resume”, I’m just don’t know if taking an online class is a good substitute for learning in an actual classroom. Especially when I’m paying $500+ for a class.

I see that they also use an online software to teach. Any good?

I’m taking AP Physics C and I like it. I also used EPGY in elementary school.

I see it as an opportunity to take classes not offered at your school, or to learn more than you otherwise would in a classroom. I know some classes in high school are absolutely terrible, and obviously with EPGY you wouldn’t have a bad teacher that doesn’t teach. Also, the lectures are pretty easy to follow. Having a mentor you can contact is also pretty convenient.

Do you also get tested as well??

yes, you do.

Seems pretty useless to me

^Depending on your school, you can get credit for the classes. It’s a nice alternative if you don’t mind the price.

Why pay when a public school will offer the same APs for free and depending on your area at a good to high quality. Now if you don’t live in a good area, you probably can’t and shouldn’t pay for this and instead do your best to be a shining example at your school with what you have (which I understand is limited, since I live in a bad area on permit to a good public school) and the universities will mop that up and accept you.

It’s not AP, it’s college (upper division) level courses that I’m planning to enroll in.

And I’m not doing this for college apps, I’m doing it because I’m done with the HS curriculum and I want to advance further.

I am taking AP Physics B, and have taken PreAlgebra, Algebra, Algebra 2, ENG 10A, B, and C there.

Frankly, you learn a lot. lol
