Stanford extended waitlist

Sorry, I was confused for a second. I forgot that when Stanford said, “one of the few” they actually meant like 700 or so. :D

haha that is prob what they meant. so i’m not getting my hopes up. i think they’re doing it by region.

is 700 the number they did last time w the sending out of interest emails? and i’m guessing it is the same email as you guys got?

When did you get the email? And did it say, something about an extended waitlist? If so, it is the same email. Also, I thought Stanford said they sent everything out at the same time.

I just got the email yesterday night, though this was from an individual admissions officer. Said nothing about an extended waitlist; i did get the “official” wl email a while ago tho.

It sounds like you were taken off the waitlist,? Congrats. Were you one of the 85? I was placed on the extended waitlist, but no admissions officer individually contacted me. What did the individual email say? That is interesting.

Guys, don’t get confused, nahs is wrong. nahs, I would ask you to refrain from stating such things without knowing the facts. The waitlist is a pretty sensitive issue for those who are still optimistic.

There’s been more than one occassion in which Dean Shaw or an adcom have said that the waitlist is likely to be used again. My regional officer told me yesterday that they’ll be revewing people from all places, when I asked what regions they’ll be considering for the second round.

I think nahs meant that the 600 character box on the waitlist is now closed. The transfer 600 character box is still open.

@uneverknow: So we can contact our regional officer? There was something I really wanted to send, but there was like a multi-sentence clause saying you can’t send them anything. Is it truly as exclusive as they say?

After all the work you’ve put in through the years, don’t you think you deserve to at least contact your adcom, if not send in new essays, recs etc?

have fun!

@ uneverknow: We’ve all put in hard work, but didn’t Stanford frown upon contacting them? How much did they really mean it?

collegeccer: I was not one of the 85, nor did i receive the "interest’ email that uneverknow got before the first round. Thanks … i’m hoping this will be good news, though the officer did say that there is no guarantee. The email basically just said what I stated above, and that sorry for the short notice for my decision to reply. I asked my counselor to contact him to make sure he knows that Stanford is my first choice and that I would def attend if accepted.

darling, so you were contacted by your regional officer recently? Does this mean another round of personal emails has been sent out?

Yup, contacted by regional officer. I have no idea about the latter tho… seems like I’m the only one on CC so far who has gotten them for the second round? At least I’m the only one posting about it so far… lurkers?!

@collegeccer- Stanford frowns upon receiving additional academic/extra-curricular material/supplementary material. But nobody’s taking away your right to speak to the person who decides your fate at Stanford.

@Ikari- I THINK Stanford didn’t get the desired number of people from CA off the waitlist, because darling seems to be the only who’s received the e-mail before the second round. Or, they’ve recently noticed that darling is a probable candidate, so they e-mailed just to be sure

@ uneverknow- You think the admit-wave that darling was in, was just targeted for Californians?

^^ just to be clear, I actually had given up all hope and didn’t contact Stanford at all apart from filling in the WL form.

oh my god. i’m hoping this is good news…

Yeah, it sounds like really positive news. No one else was directly contacted. They AC is probably just waiting for a few people not to accept the waitlist offer. How many people do you think of the 85 will not accept?

@Collegeccer- darling wasn’t admitted. She received a letter asking if she’s interested in being considered again, so that they can review her application. Some people received the exact same e-mail before the first round, myself included.

@Darling- It definitely is good news. If they’ve taken the effort to go back to your application and ask if you’re interested, it could be nothing else.

Right now, I know that I’m not getting in at Stanford. Upsetting as that is, I guess I had it coming. But a part of me still has hope. Ah, optimistic me…

Yeah, I’m not celebrating yet. I wish lol. I guess I’ll just wait it out and see what happens…

What is suprising to me tho, is why didn’t they just go back to the ppl in the first round who received that email? Why send out the email to new people? It prob is the whole regional issue?

So, this email was definiatly different from the generic waitlist and extended list email? Any idea how many people received that? Any idea how many people will accept out of the 85?

Or maybe they just like you :)
