I just went to the Stanford/UCLA game (big easy win for UCLA). The new football stadium is great, the football team still isn't. What is Stanford going to do to save themselves? It doesn't seem like the new coach was enough.

Aw, poor Stanford. Oh well, it'll do better in the upcoming games (hopefully).

Hey, UCLA is top 25. And we still scored more points in that stadium yesterday than we did in almost any game last year.

who cares?

Thousands of people CARE.

they are really bouncing back off that 1-11 2006 record.

Yea I watched it on TV - happened to be at an alum's house. Those UCLA guys really know how to run through masses of players...

Let me set a couple things straight. First to the mom, you have to remember that the team Jim Harbaugh inherited had one of the most pathetic offenses in college football last year. They were either the worst or one of the worst teams in allowing sacks. This in turn contributed to their non-existent running game and also gave Trent no time to throw. Their defense just wasnt good either. This is why they had ONE win last year.

Now Harbaugh comes in, and you CANT expect Stanford to go to a bowl game in one year...especially with a one win team in the PAC 10. Turning around a program takes at least 2 years (being optimistic) with all the recruiting. In addition, Stanford has the 9th ranked hardest schedule in college football. Their non conference games are against a very good nationally ranked TCU team, San Jose State who went to a bowl game last year, and the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.

I am a really big Stanford fan and they are definitely improved over last year, but analyzing their schedule they might only get one or two wins. But dont despair, Harbaugh is turning it around. He is intense, competitive, and he is bringing in some recruits.
Remember Andrew Luck's name....around the 5th or 6th ranked QB prospect in the nation coming to Stanford next year from Texas!!

at least you aren't a michigan football fan

We rarely see threads like this in the ivy league forum.

UCLA is probably the second best team in Pac-10 after USC. I was actually quite impressed that we kept the game close until a little after half time.

I'm willing to give the new coach a full two seasons to build his own team.

And honestly, we can't expect Stanford to beat the likes of USC or UCLA. Even though the athletes can get in w/ lower academic stats compared to regular students, the admission office still won't admit a star QB w/ a 2.5 gpa and 900/1600 SAT score. USC and UCLA have no problem doing such a thing.

I"d like to BUMP this thread hahha and give myself a nice pat on the back

OK, I deserve that...we just went THIS weekend to the Rose Bowl and watched UCLA lose pathetically to Notre Dame. The biggest cheer of the entire game was when they announced the Stanford victory over USC.
