You have a reasonable chance although nothing stands out in your EC's besides the engineering competitions (which Stanford will like) and the internship thing.

What is your class rank?

Stanford has millions of Asian applicants so making it clear that you're Asian or that you've done "non-Asian" things is ridiculous and will earn you a swift, quick outright rejection. Don't play the race card in anything unless you're a URM.

ya it kinda sucks to be an asian or a white applicant.

THanks for the input zephyr...However Im sure i was misunderstood...I wasnt planning on writing anything, I was just hoping for a little hook in the adcom's mind thats all..but im sure uve answered the question to that as well....As for ECs, i definately know im weak but you think I can do anything to help my situation in my final year/summer or how to write my ECs in a more effective way?

Being Asian and doing stereotypically non-Asian things means nothing.

Your main attraction will be the engineering work.

As long as you dominate your EC's and win as many awards as possible, that should help the EC category a lot.

Actually I would guess that "being Asian and doing stereotypically non-Asian things" will probably help your chance. Obviously, as you mentioned, you should never write this explicity in your application.

As for the ECs, don't start anything new your final year. Contrary to popular belief, ECs that stand out are NOT absolutely necessary for admission. Your dedication to ECs should show more in your essays and rec letters rather than in your list of activities/awards/etc. So take control of what you can at this point-- namely, your essays.

I disagree a12. As long as the applicant isn't a URM, I don't think they distinguish by race. Will they give kudos to a white guy for doing stereotypically "Asian" things like learning Chinese, playing the piano and being dominant in math? I don't think so. That's simply high achievement, not an ethnic thing.
