Stanford High School Summer Program Essay Question

The essay must be between 500-700 words in length

If you were given all the money you would ever need, and were free to do absolutely anything with your life, what would you choose to do and why?

I feel so nervous about even applying that I started to over-think the question. Does this refer to my personal choices in terms of careers/ambitions or what I'd do with the money in general (i.e. donate it to the needy, blah, blah, blah). If it's the latter option, there's a lot that I would do with that money, but I don't want the essay to sound like a list. Should I narrow it down to 1-3 things only? Any suggestions or advice?

Thanks!

You are not applying to colleges yet.

This is obvious, if only because you have not yet realized the need to interpret the question in the way that you can best answer it; if you have an inspiring or interesting story about why you want to go down your chosen career path, write about that. If you know exactly what you would do with complete control of the world economy, go for it! You need to mold the question to fit your answer.

Just make sure it’s YOUR answer, and not anybody else’s. Never let someone else take away your voice.

I went to Stanford this summer (2012), and it was the best two months of my life. Faisan Love!

I’d say so NOT say you’d donate the money because it makes you sound like a Good Person.

They are asking you about your dreams, unencumbered by financial concerns.
