^ as a freshman, you probably wouldn’t think the housing is gorgeous, spacious, or perfect–I assume you’re in Wilbur or Stern. Wait till you’re an upperclassman and you’ll be much happier with housing. ;)

Actually, some of the undergrad housing at Harvard is cramped, dark, dingy and awful, and some of it (especially some of the newer suite housing) is wonderful, spacious and very comfortable.

huh? What is this supposed to mean?

But freshmen can’t get into Row houses, right?

How does freshman housing work? If I ask for an all-frosh house is it likely that I get an all-frosh house?

@Eiswein: the only house on the Row that has freshmen in it is Muwekma, the Native American-themed dorm. I think those interested in living there can request it in the Approaching Stanford forms.

@lemonade502: If you request all-frosh, it’s almost guaranteed. Most freshman live on east campus in either Wilbur or Stern (~1200 students); these were made to be all-frosh to accommodate the demand for all-frosh housing, which has always been more popular than 4-class. There are other all-frosh dorms on campus as well. The only way that you’d get 4-class, as I understand it, is possibly if your roommate match asked for 4-class. Since they match you to your roommate before assigning you to a dorm, and since they apparently don’t take this preference into account when matching roommates, it’s possible to end up in a 4-class dorm when you asked for all-frosh, and vice versa. They may have changed this policy since making Wilbur and Stern all-frosh.

Hi Phanta! Thanks for the reply!

Does anyone know about Roble’s current floor plan? It seems it has double-room quads. Also, is it far from classrooms compared to other freshmen housing options?

^Roble has 3-room quads. It’s a short bike ride away from the main quad. If you are techy then you’ll likely have classes in the engineering quad area, which Roble is extremely close to. Plus you’ll always have a downhill bike ride to classes! One time I got to a class on the furthest corner of the quad from Roble without peddling.

Thank you so much phantasmagoric!

Um, so three-room quad = 1 common room +3 individual small bedrooms (and in the case of Roble) +3 tiny bathrooms with sinks?

^1 common room + 2 bedrooms + 2 closets + 2 sinks (no toilets)

thanks, Senior!

How are the bathrooms in freshman dorms? Are there at least curtains or doors between showers, or are there open showers?

I live in a freshman dorm, and we don’t have open showers. To my understanding, I don’t think any dorms have open showers. They’re individual stalls with doors that close and lock.
