Hi all, thanks for answering in advance. My question is regarding ticking the box in the common app for stanford that says request financial aid.
I understand this greatly lowers my chance of admissions(i believe the statistic is only 25% of internationals receive aid) but I wouldn’t be able to afford it otherwise.
My question is: would I be admitted first and then submit my family’s financial circumstances or would it be the other way around? If the answer is the latter then would how much aid I would be asking for be a factor in my application. e.g. with all else the same, would an international asking for 30k a year be admitted over someone asking 40k a year.
If you are going to need financial aid at any time during the four years, then you have to check the box. If you don’t do it now, you won’t be eligible for it.
When you apply for aid, which you have to do, you don’t “ask” for a certain amount.
You provide your parents financial info and the school determines what they’ll give.
Stanford is need aware for int’ls.
If you need financial aid, you must check that box when applying. You will not be permitted to apply for institutional need based aid after you get accepted.
And by the way…an acceptance without sufficient aid to attend is worthless.
If you need aid…apply for aid.
Need aware means they consider if you need aid when you apply. If they want you they will give it. International chances are extremely low so just consider this a long shot and apply for the aid since you need it.
