Stanford LIVE

How hard it is to get into Stanford though a live violin audition? Like how mnay ppl usually apply and then how many ppl do they accept?

i think u can send them a video

i know, but i want to apply live cause i've made nationals for violin, but im not sure how hard it is to get in! does anyone know?

are you asking about stats you can get from their website or are you asking how many people apply live (wha?!)

well kind of. like how many people do they accept per year through a live audition for violin. and does anybody also know, how many usually usually tryout?

They accept people solely based on a live audition? Or are you talking about admittance into their orchestra or school for music (do they have one?)?

Here's what they say about it in their FAQs. Note that Stanford does not have a pre-professional B.Mus. program and they're not set up to conduct live auditions:

"Applicants with extraordinary talent in the fine or performing arts who intend to participate and/or study in one of the arts areas while at Stanford, even if not majoring in the arts, may submit supplementary materials following specific guidelines for review by appropriate faculty members. Such applicants are expected to have previously received significant recognition for their talent, usually at the regional, state, national or international level. You should use the appropriate Fine and Performing Arts Form found on our website and submit the form and required materials by the stated deadline. Late submissions will not be reviewed.

If all other aspects of your application are otherwise compelling, an outstanding review can make a difference in our evaluation of your application."

That all being said, it couldn't hurt to contact the person in charge of the major orchestra there and ask if it would be possible to come and audition for her or him personally.

oh my. well u guys aren't trying for music so of course u wouldn't know.

stanford lets u send in either a CD or go play a live audition for them. if they like u ur in regardless of ur 1.0 gpa!! so what' im asking is, i'm going to fly up there and play live fore them. does anybody here know how many ppl they accept through live auditions?

I very much doubt a 1.0 gpa can be overridden by any amount of musical talent.

Be prepared to face every other asian violinist in the country... or actually that's redundant. 99% of violinists are asian (or so it seems) anyway.

By the way you communicate here, I can see you won't be a very competitive applicant. Sorry.

My son sent in a CD (bassoon). It is my understanding that if you feel your musical talent adds to your application, go ahead and audition (live or CD) but it isn't a major tip factor unless you are already famous.

yo cc viewer hmmmm. actually. y not actually get to know me instead of saying i have no chance whatsoever? I've personally talked to the Stanford musical teachers. and they said if they want me, i get in regardless of my application. i practice 4 hours a day on top of 3 sports president of 2 clubs and county manager to raise money for team usa. ...2200 sat sat2 math 800 chinese 770 us history 750, im not here to talk about my resume. i appreciate any input u may have but not stupid comments

Then why are you asking CC? You'd get a much more reliable answer from the actual music teachers themselves. They should be able to tell you how many live auditions they accept anually.

they wont tell me

I guess that's understandable. What else can you do besides prepare the best audition and best application you can? Don't be tricked into thinking that a good audition will make up for a mediocre application--do your best on both and cross your fingers.

that's very true! i was just wondering like the level of players i would be compeiting against :)
