Stanford OHS

My 7th grader took the SSAT twice. His percentile ranking and score is exactly the same; however, the distribution is completely different. Please let me know your opinions on which test score we should submit to Stanford OHS for his 8th grade application. Note: Neither of his written essays were impressive (or representative of what he is capable of). However, he did NOT finish his 1/6/18 essay (he had two more words to write). So, the December 9th essay was better (vocabulary, complete story, etc.) Thank you for your time and comments.

Test Date: 12/9/17
Verbal Score: 683, Range 667 - 699, 7th Grade percentile ranking: 81, Grade 7 male percentile ranking: 82
Quantitative Score: 665, Range 651 - 679, Grade 7 percentile ranking: 69, Grade 7 male percentile ranking: 65
Reading Score: 662, Range 643 - 681, Grade 7 percentile ranking: 71, Grade 7 male percentile ranking: 72
Total Score: 2010, 7th Grade percentile ranking: 77, 7th Grade male percentile ranking: 77

Test Date: 1/6/18
Verbal Score: 695, Range 679 - 710 , 7th Grade percentile ranking: 88, Grade 7 male percentile ranking: 89
Quantitative Score: 674, Range 660 - 688, Grade 7 percentile ranking: 77, Grade 7 male percentile ranking: 74
Reading Score: 641, Range 622 - 660, Grade 7 percentile ranking: 54, Grade 7 male percentile ranking: 57
Total Score: 2010, 7th Grade percentile ranking: 77, 7th Grade male percentile ranking: 77

On the 1/6/18 test, he significantly scored higher in the verbal and quantitative sections, but he really dropped his score in the reading section. Again, any advice is much appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your time and comments,

Hey Involved Mother,

I’m currently a student at ohs who just went through the whole application process. Granted, I was applying for 10th grade, but I don’t think the application was any different.

As for the scores, I’m pretty sure you can superscore (I believe that’s what it’s called when you can choose the best scores in each category). Then again, my memory might be playing tricks on me, so you might want to email an admissions officer asking if that’s okay. I recall them saying so…

And don’t worry if it’s past the deadline, I sent them an email after the deadline last year, and they swapped my old scores with my new ones.

As for the writing section, well, my essay was pretty terrible, but I don’t think they read it, so don’t worry about that.

Anyways, hope that helps!

PS: Ohs is a really amazing school, so I wish you and your son the best of luck! Hope he gets in and you get to be a part of this wonderful community!

@alexrusso9 Hi, DD applied to OHS, and we are wondering when to receive the admission decision letter. When did you get your admissions decision letter? Thanks.

Hello knowmore,
We have not heard anything, yet. The OHS website shows the admission release date is in March (no specific date given). My understanding is that we will receive an email when the admission decisions are released. Then, we log into the application section to see what the status is. We were really hoping that the acceptance decisions were going to be released March 10th, since that is the day that boarding schools release, but obviously that was not the magical date. The second round of applications are due March 16. So, we now have our fingers crossed for notification by Friday. If you hear anything, please feel free to share!

Involved Mother

Hello alexrusso9,

Thank you for the information! I am just now seeing your reply. I ended up contacting OHS admissions about our son’s SSAT scores, and they said that I could submit both sets, so I did.

We also have a 9th grade daughter who is also applying for 10th grade. She scored in the 85th percentile on the SSAT. Based on your score and your possible knowledge of your classmates’ scores, do you know if our son (77th) and our daughter’s (85th) percentiles are in the range of what OHS accepts? I also submitted their scores for the Iowa Assessments (not a required test, but a national standardized test)… daughter 99th percentile (last two years) and son 95th percentile (93rd previous year).

We are anxiously awaiting the admission decisions. The second round of applications are due March 16, so we are hopeful that we will hear any day. If you submitted for the 1st round, did you get notification by the 2nd round application deadline or do you remember?

Thanks again for the information, and I am happy to hear you say OHS is amazing! I cannot wait to share your opinion with my kids.

Smiles,
Involved Mother

Hi, @Involved Mother When I got an email, they said the mid of March. It Will be turned out within days. Feel comfortable and I will update you when I receive any notification from SOHS. Wish you have a good luck! :-h

Ask Stanford OHS for their range of accepted SSAT scores. I read something recently and, if I recall correctly, the scores were quite high.

Hello Publisher,

I did ask Stanford OHS about the range of accepted SSAT scores, but the admission officer indicated that there is not a set score range. She stressed that they look at the entire application package, not just the SSAT scores.

Thank you,
Involved Mother

I will try to research the article that I read recently about Stanford OHS. I may or may not be able to locate it. If I do, I will post here.

quora dot com “Stanford Online High School is generally looking for SSAT scores of 90 or higher.”

@“Involved Mother” The result came out. You go to the application site and check it out. Good luck!

Thanks, knowmore! Our daughter got accepted, but our son did not. He is young and has more time. Good luck to your daughter!

@“Involved Mother” Sincerely Congratulation!!! Your son may have time to join in later!
My DD got also accepted, but her bs offer is too good to decline, too.

For the accepted students, what were your SSAT scores ? Thanks in advance !

@Publisher Check your inbox. I sent you a pm.

Thank You !

DD got accepted to OHS for Grade 9. We are deciding whether to accept it. Does anyone know the acceptance rate? Do they recorded the class lesson for later to review it? We are thinking for her to try a single class this year and transits to full time in Grade 11? How hard is it to transfer to full time student? Is there any classes that she must take.
