Stanford only accepted 27 transfer students this year

University braces for large incoming class | Stanford Daily

Thought this would be of interest for you all!

Of which, it includes, based on the other thread in the Stanford forum:

Two community college students

and a former marine that I know of personally.

I was rejected, but I'm glad to see that Stanford commits itself to giving a chance to non-traditionals/CCC'ers--gems that are otherwise never recognized-- a chance in the admissions game.

I know how others on this forum must be feeling about their rejections from Stanford, Uchicago (ESPECIALLY Uchicago--geez...talk about a complete slaughter this year...but, anyways, I digress), Harvard, and other elite colleges, but to put it in perspective:

Think of all the amazing, utterly talented, diverse people who are accepted in the RD admissions round. Intel Science winners, Scholastic National medal winners, 2400 top scorers, people of all ethnicities who come from different backgrounds, etc. etc. Around 10%ish at each elite college (huge rounding off, I know).

Now imagine that pool of people applied to Chicago et al. Only a fifth of them would make it.

The transfer game is very tough, and despite knowing the realities I hope you all don't take this as a reflection yourself as not being good enough. I know I did when I first found out about my rejections, but I'm still transferring to a university, that--though it's not an ivy--is ending up to be one of the best choices out there for me. I'm getting a great education that I wouldn't have even been offered in the first place without first entering the community college system.

For those of you who did get into the places you wanted to--congratulations! Hopefully these new places will allow you to flourish that your current institutions didn't.

There's a ton of more stuff that I have to say, but for now:

Best of luck to you all to you Transfers '12. I'm sure you'll end up heading to a place that's perfect for you--one that you may not have expected in the first place.

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful message! Although I didn’t apply to Stanford or any school of the like, I still got rejected by a handful of colleges. I believe that things will always work out in the end. Wherever these people go, they will excel! :)
