Stanford or CalTech for EE or CS

Which would you choose for electrical engineering or Comp Sci? The money doesn’t matter.

Both schools will offer a phenomenal education and research opportunities. The real question is which provides the better cultural fit. Caltech selects for people who eat, sleep, and breathe STEM. Stanford has a student body with more diverse interests. Caltech is 59/41 men/women. Stanford is 52/48. Have you visited both campuses? What were your impressions on where you would want to live the next four years?

If you are luck enough to have the choice you should visit both schools and decide which environment you’d prefer to spend your next four years.

We have visited both campuses and got accepted to both. We are leaning towards Stanford.

What are you looking for?

Both are at the very top in CS and EE but they are VERY different.

@PurpleTitan caltech results came out today fam so they coulda done scea stanny and rd calt

@LookAtThisNet: Yeah, I just realized that.

You should know after your visit, not sure anything strangers on a forum can help with that great decision to have… Students usually have very strong (love it or hate it) feelings about CalTech. Go to the one that feels best to you - don’t worry about what other people think - go with YOUR gut.

Are you the student or the parent? If the latter, let the student make the decision(assuming money isn’t an issue).

Ultimately it is his decision. Was just wondering what the general population thought

They are very different schools and I can’t imagine how both can be a perfect fit for the same student. I suggest your student to attend admitted students days. Last year during admitted student’s visit my DD learned that CS at Caltech is more theoretical then she would like it too be. She also preferred to attend a larger school. I can’t stress enough attending admitted students days at schools your student considers.

@Ballerina016 thank you for your insight

But "we " didn’t get accepted, unless two of you were admitted.

General population probably thinks that they are both elite in CS and EE, both elite in general, and both at the very top of the category of the type of university they try to be (and neither of the two have any desire to be anything like the other).

This thread is almost like asking whether Harvard or Williams is better for econ.

Let me know if anyone disagrees.

No another “we” discussion please!
