Harvard is Stanford of the East :)

haha I was just thinking that^!
yeah, does anyone know anything about Stanford vs Harvard with respect to studying chemistry? Which one has better classes and profs and research opportunities? I have no clue x_x

Research opportunities for undergrad would DEFINITELY be Stanford.

Go To Stanford! Let Me Have The Spot At Harvard!!!!! Help Me Get Off Waitlist!

yo. no offense. but you're getting annoying. quit whining.

o yea, "no offense" huh.

you quit whining about my posts. ur getting annoying

n1bigdude: "Also, mlee88 if your intersted in both chemical engineering and economics you can double major at Stanford. Harvard does not give you this option."

Horse manure.

Harvard engineering is very limited especially for chemE. I just checked their course listing and almost nothing is chemE related. Their chemE research is probably non-existent. Pretty obvious to me Stanford is a better choice.

"go to harvard, its more prestigious and you save a space for the rest of us waitlisted"

"go to stanford. help the harvard waitlist student!"

my two cents is... go to harvard! haha stanford is my dream school and i'm on the waitlist.

;-)

waitlist, eh... I know the feeling: I was depressed about being deferred from MIT and then waitlisted (MIT results come out like 2 weeks before the ivies/stanford); but Stanford and Harvard are each better than MIT right? ;)

joker123: "n1bigdude: 'Also, mlee88 if your intersted in both chemical engineering and economics you can double major at Stanford. Harvard does not give you this option.' Horse manure" -- what do you mean? I think Stanford has as BAS degree which I heard on some thread means you get one diploma and a BA (economics) and BS (chemE); Harvard I know you can't double major, esp. in unrelated fields.

Anybody know of any good rankings/evaluations/comparisons of economics depts? I would like to compare the those of H and S.

I know several people who are double-majoring (or working on a joint-concentration). Harvard discourages it, but it's possible. My friend is doing Government and Economics--he wrote a 20 page thesis convincing Harvard of a link between the two! Another is doing Government and English, and so on.

STANFORD with no doubt. Live a happier life; prestige is only skin deep. Stanford is ranked #2, along with CAL, in undergrad engineering. It is also ranked #2 grad engineering. It is only under MIT. Have you even seen the campus! It's epic; i think i heard its the second largest campus, with the texan university as the largest. Plus, you have the benefits a great weather, a better ocean to look at, less competition, CAL stutdents at whom to poke fun....etc etc

Stanford does have the 2nd most land in the world - ~9000 acres. However, that doesn't say how big our campus is.

"texan university as the largest"
Do you mean UT? They have like 50,000 students, but it's on 40 acres.

2nd most land of all colleges. At least I think.

I remember reading a thread that showed a bunch of colleges I'd never heard of which have a ton of land each. I wonder where it is.

But only one-third of Stanford's land is "developed."

I'm making this decision now (as the final two colleges I've narrowed it down to). And while I went SCEA to stanford and have always favored stanford, I don't want to just discount harvard based on vague generalizations and stereotypes.
Does anyone else have advice on making this decision, either if you've had to make it yourself or if you are simply at one of the two schools now and can speak on your experiences? thanks.

If you don't visit both schools, you won't be in the best position to make the decision about which you prefer. Relying on the biased views of anonymous posters on College Confidential is not the way to go.

funny though, harvard and stanford have their admit weekend on the same weekend, so one can't do both.

For the B.A. economics degree, does anyone know if both harvard and stanford have mgmt consulting (mckinsey, bain, etc.) or i-bank (goldman sachs, morgan stanley) recruiters come? I'm quite sure harvard does, don't know about stanford...

This is kind of non-sequitur but can any tell me statistics on med school admissions (getting into med school) of harvard and of stanford undergrad students?

Finally, icefalcon7, if you hear new info that might help me make this decision, PM me. Thanks.

ah...yeah, i'd like to know the med-school stats, if anybody has them...

would be much appreciated, as i can't find those darn stats...
