Hardship:
My parents got divorced when i was 8 years old, and ever since then I have had to change schools and states every 6 months. Throughout high school i've gone to 6 different schools (1 online.) During my entire sophomore year, i went through a long and terrible custody battle that eventually ruled in my favor, but not before ruining my relationship with my dad. By the beginning of junior year, my dad finally moved to where i was living from Arkansas (part of the agreement made in court.) So, i had to leave my mom's house every other weekend and 2 days every other week to go to his house, which was better than having to move to arkansas every 6 months but still kind of sucked. Anyways, this whole situation was really stressful and i will explain it in my essays.

Your chances are certainly above average with your excellent scores and URM status, even without all of your hardships. Hopefully your essays and letters of recommendation will win them over. Good luck!

I know for sure you are well matched with CMU and probably UCB. Your GPA does seem a bit lower than average but it should still be good enough with all your other good portions of your resume.

I wouldn’t think Stanford and Cornell is that much harder to get in than CMU and UCB.

My gpa for Stanford would be higher since Stanford doesn’t consider freshman grades. My GPA for grades 10-11 is 3.92 (uw) and 4.31 (w)

Stanford and Cornell are high reaches. Will you be able to afford Berkeley? You would get no financial aid as an OOS student.

Yeah money won’t be that much of an issue

Bump

Although Stanford is a reach for everyone, I’d say you’re a pretty strong applicant, especially with your strong comp sci background. CMU is very likely. Chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1688565-predict-me-columbia-mit-yale-carnegie-mellon-and-others.html

OP, I hate to be invasive but are you sure? $100,000 may seem like a lot to you, but you would be asking your parents to give away more than 1/2 of their total income away to send you to school. That doesn’t really seem economically feasible by any standards.

@AnnieBeats‌ that’s assuming they have not saved a single penny for college.

@Oberyn Yes, that is true. But the likelihood of having the total COA for 4 years saved is extremely low.

My grandma is really rich and i know she’d help me. And also we have about the first years worth saved

Is this for a friend or did you miraculously convince the ACT to give you 3 extra points?

gr8 b8

@austin23 Relying on rich grandma isn’t a good idea unless she has a 529 savings plan. If she does, I’ll back off. If she doesn’t, I suggest that you don’t apply to the UCs. Also, your family income, test scores, GPA, and revenue from your app has fluctuated between threads. What is your real situation? No one will judge you.

@wonsler what happened?

@austin23 You might need other options besides your grandmother.

@TheMaskedPanda‌ Well, for starters, I’ve been browsing the ACT forum for quite a bit recently ( I took it two weeks back) and I recall austin23 getting a score of 32 C. Hypothetical scores don’t irk me that much, but it really doesn’t give you much in terms of a chance if that’s not your real score. However, that’s not the biggest problem. If you go back into his post history, he has multiple threads where there are a bunch of changes in his stats all in the matter of a month or two. In one thread, he has a 36 and in two others, he has a 35 with completely different sub scores. A month ago he had an 800 in physics, lit, and Math 1. On top of that, his EC’s change so often that I won’t even bother to list them.

Again, gr8 b8.

@wonsler Oh, Ok. I have been on the ACT forum a bit recent and I do recall seeing Austin23’s post very frequently. He is probably just trolling. Just wants attention to boost his self esteem probably.

Right now i have a 32 on the act but i know it will increase by the october test to 34+ so i didn’t want you guys to chance me based on the 32. As for GPA, it’s kind of hard to calculate because some schools don’t consider freshman grades and other do. I have made two apps and am in the process of making 1 more and have an idea for 1 more after that. My profit has already reached $25k but on the other threads i was counting on releasing the apps i am currently working on much earlier, but i haven’t had enough time.
