Stanford Recruiting (Pink envelope/early application??)

Hey y’all

I’ve been searching the web and I can’t really find any information about Stanford’s athletic recruiting process and how that all works.

So, could anyone share with me any information about the “pink envelope”? Is this the same as an “application” that a recruited athlete receives during their Junior year? Any other information about how this works?? If a prospective athlete is “approved” by admissions to receive an “application” then what does this mean in terms of potentially getting a spot on the team and being accepted to Stanford?

Thanks so much. There is very little information online about this process and it seems to be unique to Stanford.

Any help/information is much appreciated.

I don’t know the terminology, but I do know a kid who was recruited by Stanford a few years ago. In that circumstance, Stanford wanted the kid to go through a truncated admissions process during the summer after his junior year. This process occurred after an offer was made. The way it was explained to me, once a kid decided to commit to Stanford, he was run through this process to ensure he would be admitted in the fall.

While that sounds similar to what you are describing, I don’t really know the process at Stanford well at all. As always, the coach is going to be the absolute best source of information.

S didn’t complete the process with Stanford because he decided to go a different direction. However, what I was told this spring by the coach was that the coaches would submit some info on S to admissions, I’m guessing test scores, transcript and a coach evaluation of how important of a recruit he was. Admissions would then determine whether they would give him an early application. If they did, basically he would fill out what I believe was a complete application, including essays. The coach said it would probably take a month for S to complete, since he would need LOR’s and complete essays. Once that was done, admissions would give a review.

S was a high athletic and low academic recruit for Stanford at the time (he just got a test score this week that would have helped). Coach was pretty confident S could get the application and said he was 90% sure S would get in after filling out the application, but he wouldn’t have the final answer until probably July. I don’t know if that would be actual admission, or some “likely letter” type instrument, or if it would still just be verbal until signing day in November. I don’t think they were requiring a commitment from S to start the process, but we never got that far.
