Nationals in Debate

Rec's were really good, essays were.. well who knows- I liked them. :)

Does Class rank & lack of ECs kill me?

ECs are ok, class rank is ok (alright, your class rank is much better than ok, but this is Stanford we're talking about).

I think you have a quarter-decent chance...that's a much better shot than most, btw.

Hard one. The ECs are really thin. Does your application bring out a passion for anything? Where are you from? What type of HS? Low income or first generation?

Yeah, wrote about speech and debate- went to Stanford debate camp this summer(tied it in, figured they'd like it). Caucasian, First Generation, Avg. Income, Public School in mid-west that sends about 10 to top schools of classes of 600ish.

Being first generation might swing it. Did you work during HS?

well, TASP is nothing to sneeze at; it is pretty difficult to get into... i think this would be taken into consideration..

plus, your GPA is pretty good, i dont believe Stanford looks at your Freshman year, so it should be somewhat higher...

great chances!

First Generation meaning I'm not a legacy right? Why would that swing anything- and which way?
And I calculated my GPA excluding my freshmen year, included it's around 3.8 weighted.

1st gen - first to go to college in your immediate family.

policy or LD debate?

LD camp, policy for first year LD for last 2 years of HS. Awards in both tho. Nationals in LD

And nevermind, I'm not a first gen- I thought that meant non-legacy.
I have worked at Best Buy over the summer last year though. to answer Bobby

Haha it would be pretty hard for a first gen. to qualify for USAMO and attend TASP.

Is it just me or are people missing the 36 ACT? Write really good essays (1st gen might help) and really fluff up your EC's and you have a shot.
