At $90 for the application fee (2nd highest in the US for undergrad programs, after George Mason), allowing for a certain percentage who have fee waivers, chances are that generates close to $2.5 million for the Stanford…
That is one expensive lottery ticket everyone is buying.

Great…

And you are competing with kids that are curing cancer. Did you see that high school junior that has been using the stanford labs? The nightly news carried her story. She has a new way to deliver cancer drugs.

It getting harder and harder to be great.

I am wondering how many Californians in that 36,000 applicants. By charter, 40% of Stanford students are Californians (I might remember the percentage incorrectly, but surely it’s around that figure). Given that, admit rate for OOS is even lower. I know, it’s a private school so people tend to overlook that little provision in their charter. Incidentally, Duke, for example, also has a similar provision for Carolinians.

GREAT news. Rejoice!

■■■

This with 72000 for UCLA

thank god I applied restrictive early action

Imagine what It’ll be like for the HS CLASS OF 2014/ College Class of 2018

-___- ugh I don’t even want to think about it

Depressing! lol.

The sheer brutality of these statistics truly makes the admissions victory all the more sweeter…just sayin’

This probably won’t change individual chances at all.

OH $#!+. 10char

Nooooooooooo

…we’ll see if I get in next year…
God’s Grace! :)

If the sub-7% statistic for admissions isn’t depressing enough, consider the carve-outs for legacies, international students, athletes and under-represented minorities, which probably take the admissions percentage for the remaining “generalist” pool down significantly lower than that. It is important for any school to balance its class, but the with the sheer odds against getting into this school, no applicant would be wise to get their heart set on being in Palo Alto for four years. Kudos to those who make it in!

Seeking Wisdom, don’t forget the geniuses who get in… aka Intel winners and stuff. It’s crazy…

Truthfully, you have it wrong. All the kids at Stanford are smart. Everyone brings something special to the table. Regardless if you’re an athlete, urm, international etc. etc. Everyone has to have the grades and something more. So the chances are really no different for anyone group. Thats what makes Stanford, Stanford. If you want a school that has a homogenous population then you are applying to the wrong school. Walking around Stanford is like walking through the UN. The school prides themselves on that. So don’t get all caught up in the athletes, urm, internationals etc thing. All those kids have earned their spot too. My S knows a bunch of athletes. Three kids on his floor are Olympians. And he is always amazed at how academically talented they are. Not because he questioned it, but because he knows how busy their schedules are yet, they are all top students too. He has the utmost respect for all of them.

If you have what they are looking for, then you stand a chance. But you need to bring something to the table besides grades. Thats Stanford!

^nice! 10char

Very well stated Dungareedoll

Well this kid got in with a 3.2 GPA. It is either athletes are given huge exceptions or Rivals is inaccurate which is there is a low chance because they get this info from their high school coaches.
