Stanford Supplement on the Common App

Alrighty, so I am a rising senior in the process of applying to Stanford. I know this question is about some probably unimportant details in the application, but I wanted to ask anyway.

On the short answer questions, most of the boxes allow 300 characters. However, the question asks to be answered in "two lines or less." Does this mean two lines in one of those boxes? (which is nowhere near 300 characters) or does it mean 2 lines on paper (which gets closer to 300 characters, but varies considerably? Two lines in the box on the common app is quite literally nothing, is that really all the space applicants get?

Thanks, sorry if it seems I am asking an unimportant question. I just don't want to write too much or too little on the application.

I interpreted it as meaning two lines on paper when you preview your app… because as you mentioned, two lines in the electronic text box is nothing. I can’t imagine that’s our limitation. So I’m just going by the 300 character limit.

I took it as two lines on paper, but since font size differs I would just follow the 400 character limit. However, I wouldn’t try and make it like 299 characters unless you have to, and I suggest aiming for 250ish max.

Thanks so much guys!
