Why do people in California always compare Stanford to Taco Bell?
What's the connection?

I'm guessing because it has a beautiful bell tower & red tile roof similar to Taco Bell, but I hadn't heard the comparison before.

Red tile roofs. Some love the campus; for others it's too spanish, too isolated from town, too dry, too laid back, or insufficient ivy.

It's primarily an aesthetic thing.

Dunno but this subject line made me laugh out loud. Good work!

I assume that Stanford has a strong Tex-Mex culinary program.

With 30% Hispanic population, u see tacos all over camus.

its the architecture. The sandstone buildings in the main quad bear at least a passing resemblence to your average taco bell outlet.

I've never been there before, but from all the pictures I've seen I would definitely classify it as Taco Bell Modern. Some people think its pretty, but I for one hate Spanish style (if you could call it that) architecture.

Mission Style............not Spanish. A California hybrid.

Ah close enough. lol. I knew I was missing something.

Some of the individual buildings at Stanford are not that bad, and it nice in a way to have a bit of a theme, but for some its just too much.

In contrast to Stanford, the campus at Cal Berkeley is green and compact, accross the street from town (for better or worse), has mostly ugly buildings, is much closer to the City, and has slightly worse weather, especially in the Summer.

Kinda like folks in CA don't know what a Live Oak Tree is.......hehehehe

Haha, even I know what that is.

It's fairly green and fairly compact, sure, but I don't think the buidlings are ugly. And is the weather really the different? I would imagine there's more of a breeze here over the summer, which would be nice.

The architecture building in Berkeley, for example, is ugly, badly designed and expensive. The law school building (the newer Boalt Hall) is ugly and impractical. May other buildings are pretty bad, in my opinion.

In the summer, the fog and very cool breezes come in from the Pacific, sometimes very thick, cold dew (drizzle) in the morning, while Stanford has perfect summer weather, except for some haze (smog) at that end of the Bay, often clearly visible from Berkeley.

It compares quite favorably to the gorgeous stanford law building. Some of the buildings people find ugly. People have different views about what is and is not attractive in architecture. There are, however, many others that people find quite beautiful.

The Stanford Law Schools isn't the best either. Stanford has too much limestone; Berkeley has too much concrete. You are right, of course, that tastes can differ. I like the U. Michigan campus: green, great town, beautiful law school building. Bad weather and too many students.

the newer buildings at Berkeley are ugly, especially the architecture building. But all of them?? IMHO the original/older buildings at Berkeley are exactly like the traditional buildings at other colleges since they were designed/built in that same era, the late 1800's.
