Stanford Test Scores

I willingly took the SAT and superscored a 2250. The state of NC forced everybody to take the ACT. I didn't really study for the ACT so I only got a 31. The 31 would significantly hurt my app. Stanford says I have to submit all test scores, so do I have to submit that ACT that I unwillingly took?

The 31 will not affect your application as much as you think it will, as your admittance is not solely based on a single test score. They are probably aware that certain states do this. The score difference is not large enough to raise suspicion, it only shows that you studied for one more than the other. I wouldn’t worry about it

If I do take the ACT in September. Will I be able to send the scores in time for early action? Since I have an Arts Supplment, Stanford wants my application a month earlier, in October. Also will 3 SATs and 2 ACTs be too excessive on a score report? Thanks!

I don’t think it would affect your application at all. I believe that Stanford only looks at your best scores.

@socaldad2

Stanford asks for you to send in all scores but also says that they look at your best scores.

I am not sure why they do this unless they want to make sure that your best score isn’t the result of taking the SATs 12 times ;)

You are required to send all test scores for the one you choose to submit. It is either SAT or ACT and when you choose one, you send all of the scores for the selected test.

You can choose to only submit SAT scores (which is probably a good idea for you).

However, I don’t think Stanford really would care; your SAT is very strong and your ACT is definitely respectable.

I had a much better ACT than SAT (34 vs 2120) and I submitted both, because I honestly figured if a school would reject me for having a slightly-lower-than-average SAT (by CC standards) when I had a great ACT, then perhaps I would be better off somewhere else. Good thing Stanford is cool ;)

If I understand this doc correctly, you have to submit scores from both tests if you take both tests. Am I missing something?

“All scores required
If you take both tests, all scores required from both
Individual sections will be super scored”

Also this:

“The ACT Plus Writing or the SAT (Critical Reading, Math and Writing) is required. Official scores from all test dates must be sent to Stanford directly from the ACT or the College Board (the reporting agency for the SAT) or both if the applicant has taken the ACT and the SAT.”

You can have ACT delete your score history if you want, so you wouldn’t need to send them in:

Deleting the score would be a bad idea. They’ll only look at whichever test you did better on, and a 31 won’t hurt your app at all

I don’t think it would hurt or help.

Don’t know why it’s a bad idea to delete the score, but I don’t think its a great idea either so meh

Thanks socaldad. It seems to be new that they want both if you took both. I am still stuck in 2012 paperwork unless that bullet point existed back then and we did not see it.

This is definitely new as far as I know. I don’t remember recommendation for 2 subject tests in the past either but I see that now.
