Stanford Transfer Applicants 2009

OK, Lion, if you’re ready to stop so am I. It’s been very interesting. Looking at the early parts of the thread, I see you are a very upbeat person. I can tell you’re getting back to normal. Take care. (By the way, I am a mother, oldest daughter is at Cornell.)

woah. so much has happened since i left the computer 24 hours ago.

Taco_Grande, you are right. I did make up my account. In fact, I did not even apply to Stanford. Actually, I am George Clooney. I felt I was a bit old for Stanford, but after doing Oceans 11,12,13 I though I might be able to make up for my age. I created the names liontreelion, southerncalif, bourne (tribute to my buddy Matt damon), Missujin, antebellumdixie, pacers and many more. In fact, I made your SN as well.

I am a fake, you caught me…

okay…

If you are going to claim to be me, at least spell my name right :D

any non cc and a junior transfer?

junior transfer???

hey for those who were accepted, is there any chance you could post your stats? Thanks…

did anyone get accepted???

Hey- some folks have been emailing me after I posted about getting accepted. I just wanted to follow up and answer those questions.
I ended up choosing Reed over Stanford because I feel like Portland is a better place to live than Palo Alto, and because moving was going to be very difficult since I am broke. I also have a relationship here, a dog, etc etc.
Reed is a very good school, and I’m super psyched to start in the fall as a junior!
Good luck to all of you… I know that once I declined my Stanford admission, they opened up the place to some lucky person on the waitlist. Was it one of you?

Best of luck at Reed fuzzybear, sounds like you have your priorities in order!

So I’ve been browsing the forums for about a week as a guest. This thread in particular piqued my interest more than any other. First of all, WOW - I’ve never heard of such a thing. liontree, I completely sympathize and am glad to see that you are happy with your other choice.

I know I am beating a dead horse here but I simply cannot resist the temptation to offer my input:

First of all, I would have probably done the same thing as many people here by checking the SUnet website. I’d go as far to say that had every applicant been presented the opportunity, a significant portion would have tried to access it as well without thinking twice about any risk involved.

Second of all, I don’t think that this was an appropriate response by Stanford. However, considering Stanford can only choose 23 students out of such a large pool of talent, any tiny dent in your application could easily knock you out of contention. If it were up to me, the fact that you tried to access your decision early would not bother me. But I then again, who am I to question someone who makes these decisions as a career?

For the conspiracy theory that liontree was never admitted but was actually only being used to make an example: Wouldn’t it just be easier to close the loophole? To me, that seems like an incredibly cruel solution to a fairly easy problem.

So here’s what happened: Stanford has only 23 spots of which hundreds of viable candidates are applying. They felt that accessing the site somehow damaged your viability and there were equally talented candidates that could take your place.

horse = beat
