Stanford? UC's?

Hey everyone. Thanks for all the questions you've answered for me (and my girlfriend...) One other person I'd like to help out. A great student and an even better friend. Here's his stuff:

SAT:

SAT II - US Hist 780 MathIIc 720

Awards/Honors:

National Young Leaders Conference
American Legion Boys State (1 of 6)
Pride Award (Given to students at my high school that best display care for the student environment and show a commitment to making the school a better place.)
Rotary Student of the Month

Extracurriculars:

Choir (2yrs)
ASB (3yrs; Vice President, President)

Community Service:
Don't have all the details...at least 400hrs (does a ton w/ leadership at school)

Applied To:
Stanford
UCD
UCLA
UCSB
UCSD

He applied to UCLA and UCSD, but likes UCD much more. Stanford is his no. 1 and if he doesn't get in he'll probably end up at UCD. Stanford chances please? Thanks.

i'm sorry but i think stanford is a reject or at best waitlist.

is he interested in others?

i think he will get into ucd though. ucsd is also amazing. if you get in there i suggest he go there.

I don't see Stanford happening, but it is possible - rank and testing isn't bad.

Stanford: reach
UCD: match
UCLA: match
UCSB: safety
UCSD: safety / safe match
UCD: safety

batman32c:

UCLA: Match
UCSD: Safe Match
UCSB/UCD: Safety

I forgot to mention that he applied early decision to Stanford...how much does this help his chances???

not much to be honest.

before it did significantly, but now EDs aren't life changing. or doesn't help as much as it did before

Applying early action to Stanford does not help, as it IS early action. If Stanford were Early Decision, that would be a different story because that would show total commitment to the school because it is binding.

Yeah, his Stanford chances are not great. It's too bad because his stats are way better than mine, and chances are we'd get into almost all the same UC's...maybe even end up as roommates at UCD. Outside of stats, our main difference is that I don't care if I'm at a UC, in NorCal or SoCal, Chicago, Boston, or wherever else. He wants to stay in CA, probably NorCal. I know he could do better than UCD, is there anywhere else I'm forgetting to tell him about? Thanks.

hmm you could also consider

USC.

it's a good school.

maybe pepperdine. if you're christian and like the beach.

so Early Decision highers your chances more than Early Action does?

Early Decision does higher your chances, as many people top stats are too scared to apply ED. They might be holding out for other colleges as well, so if they get in, they ARE stuck; they end up applying RD instead.

i would suggest you put that in a separate thread.
