I’m Indian, with a 3.7 unweighted Stanford GPA (sophomore and junior) 6 AP’s Junior year, (taking 5 Senior year) none Sophomore. I’m a musician, attending the Berklee College of Music’s summer program on a partial scholarship, 250+ community service hours, raised $5,000 for North Korean refugees, and I am also the founder of my school’s “New Ideas Club” a multidisciplinary network that helps students of various passions execute ideas with the help of their peers. a 2150 on the SAT, planning to take again, and 800 on SAT subject test for US History, and planning on taking World and Lit. What are my chances at Stanford? It should be noted my Math’s and Sciences are basic, no AP’S in those subjects yet ( taking AP Bio and Stats next year) . My affinity is towards social studies and English. However, I love learning in general and it would be awesome to attend a school with people I can relate to in that.
Would REALLY appreciate a response.
Your chances are not the best. Apply by all means, but have a backup plan.
A 3.7 unweighted is pretty skinny for Stanford. People get in with that but they nearly always have…other big things.
Well, my d’s friend got in. She had a 4.0 UW, 2380 SAT, varsity sports, started clubs, tons of EC’s, won a national writing contest - pretty much a perfect person, no joke. It is really hard to get in. Really hard. Try, but have a plan B.
Good luck!
Yes, with a 3.7 you will need a large hook, or have some very compelling feature like surviving Rwanda or a highly recruited Division 1 athlete.
Would the music help? I am hopeful with Stanford because of their holistic approach, although their application process strictly admonishes supplementary stuff
so no mixtape haha
Is your music talent extraordinary?
I have taught myself theory and the technology involved with producing music and make my own electronic jazz fusion music, I got a partial scholarship to the Berklee College of music Summer Program and am signed to a management team, my low sophomore year GPA can be attributed to my effusive dedication to music,
Thank you everyone by the way for the responses. This is my first post, and I appreciate your support of my pursuit of a great education.
Can you get two music professors to say in writing that your skill is extraordinary?
Hopefully at this summer program, I can impress some professors!
Where else are you thinking of applying?
Based on my resume, what schools do you think fit me best? I am considering UF, UCLA, UC BERKELEY, NYU, But quite frankly, I am partially inundated by status, so I would love to hear an unbiased opinion.
What’s your unweight 9th-11th GPA?
What’s your home state?
Seems like you, in general, want big schools?
And all things being equal, nice weather?
No financial constraints?
UW 9th-11th is a 3.5 or 3.6, home state is Florida, i’m big on a well cultured area, hence UC’s being in my top choices, and limited to no financial constraints
and yeah, I by default associate big schools, with better professors/environment, correct me if I am mistaken in that
Better professors/environment than what?
I’d give BU a shot if you like NYU.
Maybe Eugene Lang College at the New School, too; very different feel and small but also NYC.
Possibly University of Denver.
If you want to get out of Florida, and attend an urban campus, look into Pitt or Temple. Temple is a safety for you, and you might get enough merit aid to bring it within range of UF financially.
