One more month

oh sorry i forgot about your post. Haha its alright, the bay sounds nice.

I like it a lot, but I am transferring out for 2 main reasons. On academics, class size is just too large. We have 700 people in my bio class and its on a curve, which makes it really hard. we have no recitations for it, so its difficult to learn…

On the social side, there are no frats so no chances for parties or drunken hookups haha.

But other than that, being in manhattan and going to times square every now and then is fun. Plus its a really social school, nyc is amazing :D

i was always aware that nyu had an excellent social atmosphere. i am a bit surprised however that classes get to be that size. i can understand why you want to transfer now.

How is the application process looking for you guys? I still have a few things they say they haven’t checked yet, but they were the first things I sent off :|

They take a little bit to process, I wouldn’t worry. Worst come to worst call admissions and they’ll tell you if everything is processed.

Are you guys just calling and asking? Or am I totally missing some kind of self service portal?

I’ve been doing it online. Bout three weeks ago you should’ve gotten an email from Stanford saying that they’d started your file. There’s a link in there, click on it & it takes you to the (infamous) SUNet/Axess page…on the left hand side is a link like, “check my application status” - click on that, it’ll prompt you to enter your email. Within 20 mins or so you’ll receive an e-mail saying what you’re missing.

Got an official e-mail saying there was some credentials missing and to fax them ASAP.

ah, we are getting closer.

again, good luck to everyone; despite the discouraging acceptance rate, i hope the turnout is a win for us all :)

Ok, so I have a weird situation. I am a transfer applicant, and I am using the common application, and I asked my high school counselor from three years ago to fill out my secondary school report, but she was completely convinced that I did not need it to be done. She said she didn’t even remember me, so how could she possibly fill out a form that asks for an evaluation? It made sense to me, so we just sent my high school transcripts out, and let it be. However, I just got an email from stanford saying that I am missing the secondary school report. DANGIT! Can you guys explain to me why it is important to get the secondary school report done, so I can go to my counselor and explain it to her? Does she HAVE to do the recommendation part? Can she just write that she doesn’t remember me? I’m so frusturated with her right now for not doing it two months ago when I asked her to.

Also, what is the site that I can check my status at? I tried axess.stanford.edu, but I don’t yet have a SUNet ID. I signed up for one, but apparently I have to be “sponsored” by a faculty member before I can use it to get my admission status??

Thanks guys

PS: do we need to do a mid term report for stanford???

solidblu: i had a similar account in that the most recent of the two high schools i attended reduced in size and let go of its counselors. for that reason, i was instructed by the secretary to ask my former teacher fill it out. and so i did. similarly, she expressed disinterest in writing the report as she forgot who i was and thereby didn’t feel comfortable with evaluating me.

i proceeded in consulting an admissions counselor at stanford and was advised to have my counselor at the first high school i had attended fill it out for me - and if by some off-chance she also declined - to divvy up the contents of the report between the records office (for the statistics component of the form) and a teacher of my choice (for the evaluation).

not sure if they will follow this same course of action for you given that it is past the deadline. whatever the case, i think that you should ultimately elicit a solution from an admissions counselor at stanford.

also let it be known:

“Notification of Decisions: We expect to begin emailing admission decisions on May 14th after 3 p.m. (Pacific Time). All decisions will be sent by email from Dean Richard Shaw to the email address where you have received this message. Please be sure you have added admission@stanford.edu to your email address book or safe sender list to ensure that Stanford email can be delivered without interruption or filtering, as some providers strictly filter email, preventing your receipt of our communication. Open each email you receive and display all images so we will know it was received. It is not enough to read the message from a preview window, so you should actually open every message in full html format and not from a cell phone or other PDA device. Viewing emails on these devices may not allow for you to see the complete message or allow for full functionality of important embedded links you will need to follow.”

oh wow, we are approaching the end. we will know exactly a month from now! has everyone else received that e-mail? haven’t seen anything remotely like it in my inbox

I’m going to imagine that is a good thing as it means everything you submitted made it into their offices :D

Yeah, it’s definitely nearing. I’m just fine with UCLA, Berkeley, USC or UCSD. Mostly because I know transfer to Stanford is impossible (nearly) but the anticipation is still pretty bad.

ah i agree longshot! even though my chances are slim, i definitely feel anxious everyday. i have to constantly remind myself that all i can do is wait and be hopeful. i can’t wait to hear back from the uc’s myself. i think that it should be good news for a lot of us, or at least i hope! regardless, i think you’re fine since you have such a powerful background and story :P

May 14th? Err. Too far.

hopefully they release it sooner. i think they released their decisions on the 8th last year if i’m not mistaken. i might be though, so feel free to correct me.

last years
