Stanford University Transfers Fall 2011

We better start early! Ok this is really early...anyone else out there considering it?

I'm still a senior in hs and I didn't apply because I really didn't think I'd get in. Now I'm regretting it and I think I'm going to apply as a transfer. Then I heard "1-2% admit rate". It would've been smarter to apply as a freshman! Oh well...

Anyone else out there? How are you guys feeling? What are your stats? What grade are you applying for? Where from? Major? Hopes/dreams lol?

My stats (btw if u care):

Native American/African American
Published author (passion = writing)
3.7 GPA
Study Abroad in Spain
Stanford High School Summer College
10 AP courses in hs
About to start UofM this year, hoping for a 4.0
SAT: 2000
SATII: Bio(750),US History(720)
plan to major in English

I'll put more later...

I’m definitely going to give it a shot…even though it may be a pretty looong shot, haha. Yay! I’m happy one other person is posting this far in advance. I’m at a CA CC and I’m going to transfer my sophomore year (so I will start as a junior). I’ll post my stats a little further down the road because I’m still getting more involved in a few things. hahaha good luck one year from now!

haha yea i learned from last yr and the college process that it’s best to start early! esp if we want stanford! yea i still have a lot to do …like start college! and who knows…i just might change my mind about transferring (doubt it).

Im going to transfer. rejected EA this year and Im not giving up
 ;)

is it true, that if you take 30 units in your freshman year in college they dont consider your high school info?

While I admire that you guys are committed to working for/applying to Stanford within the next year, I don’t know how wise it is to be focusing on transferring right now - especially to those of you who are still in high school.

You all know that Stanford usually admits 1-21 applicants in previous years, we don’t know how those numbers will turn out this year or in coming years due to the fact that the retention rate may rise because of Stanford’s generous financial aid policies. Your chances are slim. Everyone’s are. Entering college with the (nearly unattainable) goal of transferring to Stanford is dangerous. You’re giving yourself a little over a year to work on your application and build up hope that almost inevitably will be dashed.

If Stanford is your goal then go after it, but at least graduate high school and give yourself a chance to grow at whatever school you’re going to without letting Stanford crowd your vision.

I was also considering a transfer as well. Would it be better to transfer as a sophomore or a junior?

haha what the hell you guys already started now?! xD

i’m rejected RD this year, thinking about giving it another shot next year as a soph transfer too :)

and i’ve already finished my HS (we have different academic calendar over here), so yeah now i’m just trying to beef up CV with jobs/internships etc.

mojave mocha: definitely appreciate the advice…I understand where you are coming from. I know that I will love the college that I attend next year (it’s close to home, a lot of friends are going there) but still my dream is Stanford. I’m going to try. I’ll be sad if I don’t get in but I realize it is a slim shot. You’re right though, I’ve got to take my life one step at a time. Step 1: finish highschool. Still I’m a dreamer so I want to start thinking early.

woohoo! I’m glad a lot of you are thinking of/going to apply as transfers.

takeit2damax321: i was also thinking that? I want to transfer(attempt) as soon as possible…but would it be better to wait two years? If you applied as a freshman and not much has changed since then i guess it would be better to wait. But it’s so early a lot that a lot can happen in the next few months. Also you get 3 chances to apply to Stanford…why not try as a freshman and if it doesnt work out try again as a sophomore! lol

It’s very weird that we are all talking about applying when the people from this year havent even heard their decisions yet! Well I’ll be excited to see what happens to them and what they have to say.

IBscrewed91 & oxymor0n: this also happened to my bff but she also wants to transfer too. Don’t let it get you down, use it as motivation and show Stanford what they’ll be missing w/o u!

funnypunjabi:idk? I’ve never heard that before…but if you find out it’s true let me know ASAP! lol

Do you think I have a good chance of being accepted as a transfer student to stanford if im 26 years old and have made 50 million dollars from starting my own business but hated the (incomplete) education I got from the first college I went to for 2 years after high school?

Basically I feel like no matter how much money I make im not going to get back the college experience that i missed out on.

You don’t actually exist. ^

Ok yeh I exaggerated by a few million but 8 figures of earnings. I def do exist lol

and even if i didnt… hypothetically speaking, how would such a candidate fare?

i mean from everything i read it seems like every person that dropped out from college and got super rich from business has never gone back right?

I’ve never known such a candidate. No data, so no prediction.

@lildeucecoupe23 You have pretty good chances to get in. Stanford is looking for a diverse student body. They want students who could benefit the school as well. They are looking for unique students who are very different. If you could tell me more about your stats…I can tell you more about your chances…did you take the SAT?

Heyy has anyone checked out the application yet?

This feels like senior year all over again haha.

Ok, when I was sending in my evaluations, and the other additional forms, I printed them, FOLDED them, stuffed them in a small envelope, and mailed them! I just now read the instructions and it says:

• Cut out the label on the dotted line and affix it to a 9x12 envelope; add postage to envelope.
• Check Early Action or Regular Decision or Transfer as applicable.
• Please do not fold the form or staple the pages together.

i wouldn’t worry too much about it. the labels are definitely not required… they state you should use them because they are convenient for those processing your application. it’s probably the same for using 8x12 envelopes and not folding/stapling documents… that it’s just convenient, not mandatory. i would call just to make sure.

anyway, i took the plunge and applied for stanford, too!! i kept reading they are interested in nontraditional students, so i thought why not… :3

Hey, 1% acceptance rate is a lot better than a lottery ticket if you assume you’re statistically average-likely to be accepted. Just don’t buy the $90 ticket with any reasonable hope of winning.

This isn’t a jab at MissUnderstood, but what if one of the ways they weed out applicants is with, “ability to follow directions?”

that’s what I was thinking! But I did not have time to read all of the instructions and those instructions where on a pdf file
