I'm basically in a tight spot now. I got admitted to these great schools but now I'm really having a tough time choosing.

I want to study engineering in college but also explore other areas of interests like politics and history. I don't want to be bound to one specific path.

I've also lived on the east coast my entire life and Stanford offers a new experience, but my parents are concerned about the distance and cost to travel there. Princeton is just an hour away from my home by train. But I don't want to live another 4 years in the same region, coming from NYC. Although I haven't visited, I've also heard Stanford's weather is amazing.

Go to Stanford…and be prepared to never come back. And also be prepared for your parents’ move to the West Coast because after they come to visit you and realize how great the Bay Area is, they are going to start househunting on the Peninsula and muttering to themselves about why it took them so long to realize how much better life is out there!

Great school, great academics, great social and athletic scene, great campus setting, great work opportunities, great alumni network…I could go on, but I think you get the idea.

Palo Alto is boring. You should have applied to Berkeley instead. ;)

Congrats on your acceptances. I would choose Princeton. But, since you live in the Northeast and want a different environment, Stanford can provide this for you.

Sure, the weather is nicer compared to NYC, but don’t think you’ll be running off to a sandy beach and sunning yourself on the weekend. Norcal weather/beaches are not Socal weather/beaches.
