I am transferring, and these are the out-of-state colleges I am applying to.
Stanford, Vanderbilt, Cornell

By the way, I go to private college in FL

Major: Biochem and Economics
GPA after one semester: 3.8 (A, A, A-, A-)
I think I can get excellent recommendations
Extracurriculars: Volunteering at Hospital, Work-Study in Library, Writing Consultant, Editor at School Magazine, Journalist for the school, and Mentor to elementary school kid.

GPA in high school: 4.0 unweighted, 4.69 weighted (I can't remember- it was really high)- #1 in class
AP: American (5), Calculus Ab (5), Calculus bc (5), European (5), English Lit. (3), Physics (3), World (4)
SAT SCORE: 1390 (aaah- retaking new one)
Extracurriculars: lots- nothing too great though

You're definitely in the ballpark for Vanderbilt and Cornell. Of course, if you get your SAT's up, your prospects will be better. Stanford, on the other hand, is a real reach, even with your impressive 3.8 first semester GPA, but Stanford is a reach for almost everybody.

Since you're transfering after one year, your HS record will have a greater impact on their decision than your College Record. Your 1390 SAT isn't bad; but if you want to take it, go ahead.

Your essay will be the deciding factor to whether you get in or not.

Good Luck!

I am also studying for the SAT on the 1/28/06. I hope to get at least 1950-2100 combined. But I'll wait and see. Now I've got to hit the books!
