I was accepted early action to stanford and is being recruited heavily by Amherst for lacrosse. Which school will give me a liberal arts education that will be necessary when I attend law school esp. law school. I want a school that is respective by the top law schools(HYSC) and MBA programs(Wharton). I want to get to know my profs and i hope that they are leaders in their chosen field. I want to major in History/Philosophy. Any comments will be grateful?

Honestly, both will get you there equally and you will have an amazing time. Obviously Stanford has better "name dropping" prestige, but for anyone in academic circles its negligible. Visit both's days on campus events and decide which you like more. Also, realize if you go to Amherst most of your contacts/ close friends will be in the Northeast, Stanford they will be out west.

You can't go wrong with either. Amherst will have smaller classes, more individual attention, is a more cohesive community and more intellectual. Stanford has better name recognition but that won't matter at law schools, better weather, more people to meet and activities, and is a W. Coast experience if you haven't had one.

2 VERY different schools. This shouldn't be a difficult choice if you can focus on what you want out of college.

i say go with Stanford...but i'm biased

Well, if you are motivated and smart, you can get into Wharton or other top B/L schools regardless which one you choose. Three of the fellow Hongkongers in my year at Northwestern are now attending Harvard, MIT, and Northwestern MBA. Another one (also from Hong Kong) graduated from INSEAD (#1 MBA in Europe) two years ago. Stanford has better name than Northwestern.

The OP is a fraud.

Both are fine. What climate would you prefer?

I is not convinced you are being truthful.

Both Amherst and Stanford are top colleges. However, if you want smaller and more discussion-oriented classes, go to Amherst. Both are excellent in law school placement though. I say visit both places and decide for yourself. I think in your case, Amherst might be the better choice because you can play a varsity sport and balance it with academics. I personally prefer Amherst though.

Ditto MomofWildChild -- disregard this thread.

what's OP?
