Hey guys, I just got invited to be a Benjamin Franklin Scholar at UPenn. Up till now I've been fairly sure about going to Stanford, but this program at UPenn "sounds" prestigious. But I'm having trouble finding out about the program from the little information they have on their website.

So what do you guys think? Both Stanford and UPenn are amazing schools of course, but I've always wanted to go to Stanford a bit more. But do you think I'd be a fool for turning down the BFS program at UPenn? I know that this is the UPenn thread so the responses might be somewhat biased, but I'm willing to take any advice at this point. Thanks :).

Hi, I was also invited to be a BFS and like you I don’t know a lot of details about this program.
The cool thing is that if you fulfill the requirements, you get a “BFS” mention on you’re Penn diploma, which is insanely cool.

I am waitlisted in Columbia, and I wonder : if I get in, do I forget Penn being a BFS ?

Hope people have some info about that.

A guy at my school got into Penn (BFS) and turned Harvard down for it.

I turned Stanford down last April.
In a nutshell, BFS is great because you get to:
- have two advisors
- get special funding for your own research, on whatever most interests you (this is very helpful over the summer because if you want to do your own research, you have the funding)
- You take smaller classes that go into the material at a more in depth level
