Stanford vs. Brown

My daughter is considering Stanford vs. Brown. What are the relative merits of each school for a student interested in history, international relations, creative writing, and classical voice? I posted this on the Brown board as well and would like to see what the Stanford board has to say.

Stanford is probably only subpar to Harvard...Brown, UPENN, Dartmouth..are probably a league lower.

Stanford's IR and history programs are in the top 5. There is a very, very strong emphasis on studying abroad and it is very easy to do so with the quarter system.

Stanford has professors like Tobias Wolff, Colm Toibin (here this quarter), Eavan Boland and so on leading a strong creative writing program. Several literary publications are starting up so it will be easy to get involved.

Stanford is better than Brown :)

Definitely Stanford. Believe me :)

Here's some links to some of the vast number of opportunities at Stanford:

Stanford Institute for International Studies. They put on a lot of talks and sponsor research. http://fsi.stanford.edu/

Stanfors History Department. A very prestigious department with a large faculty and a strong emphasis on teaching.
http://www.stanford.edu/dept/history/

Stanford creative writing program. The department sponsors a lot of fellows on campus to teach and work, and the student scene is alive and growing.

of course,

Brown. For liberal arts Brown goes head to head with Harvrad, so a tech school like Stanford is no match. IR and creative writings all these belong to Harvard, Brown yale Columbia and Princton.

with Ms Rice doing her IR and doing her bid in this silly war, Stanford just created a hawkish republican policy bid. Hay u want oil simply do hostile take over of badly managed country( I raq) using army staffed by lower income folks. hay have have bush family or one the rice family kid fight this oil driven war. stanford ir is famous for silly policies which has led to useless wars. Woodrow wilson istitute at Princeton does much better job. Next these ex-stanford will bomb Iran then use India to break pakistan. We have Crusaders IV going on, thanks IR from Sford.

Thanks for all the comments. Thank you zephyr for your specific information and links. I've appreciated your posts and marlgirl's posts on other threads (especially when you take on you-know-who). My daughter is 95% sold on Stanford. It certainly matches up extremely well in all her areas of academic interest. In fact, as I write this, she is on campus at admit weekend to seal the deal. (And my wife and I are in our Palo Alto hotel). We haven't seen her since noon, so hopefully she is having fun with the HoHo's, RoHo's, and other ProFro's! Another key element in her decision making process.
