Stanford vs. Columbia: where to do my master degree?

I understood that life/weather etc are very different. I put this thread to determine whether Stanford reputation is so much higher than Columbia that I should not hesitate and go for it. I am 32, single, lived 2 years in NY, so a little worried that I will not fit in Stanford/Palo Alto younger and more campus-life environment. Please advise.

Why did you post this in the law forum?

because it s for an LLM degree = master degree in law

It won't matter. Both schools are great, go wherever you want (and are accepted).

I doubt that you would experience a more youth-oriented environment at Stanford/Palo Alto than you would at Columbia/New York City.

LLM students are not going to be appreciably younger than you are, on average, at either campus. Moreover, Palo Alto is not a particularly youthful place, due to exorbitant real estate prices: a 3-bedroom ranch house there lists for $1.8 million.

thanks to people who replied to my post. I am admitted in both schools and have to make a decision soon. I would appreciate opinions by US experienced lawyers if any surfs this website.

I've been practicing law for more than 20 years; I work in Silicon Valley; my undergraduate degree is from Stanford. You can't go wrong with either school.

What do you want to specialize in again?

If I am not mistaken, Stanford only offers two LLMs: Corporate Governance & Practice, & Law, Science & Technology. And both are designed primarily for those with foreign law degrees.

I am specializing in international litigation. I am admitted to the SPILS program (Stanford Program for International Legal Studies)

Ah, gotcha.

I am by no means an expert. However, I understand that Columbia is one of the top International Law programs in the nation. For that reason, I would head to NY -- which may also prove better for connections.

Nevertheless, Stanford academic (and weather) reputation preceeds it. And the SPILS program may just be what you are looking for -- does Columbia offer a similar program, or would you just going for a general LLM there?

So, I guess, it's basically your call. Congrats and Good Luck!:D

Wohoo! 500 posts:D.(Well, 501 now).

Ps. Just noticed -- sorry for the extra post;)
