Please help I like them both equally

What do you want to study?

What are you looking for in a school?

Stanford will offer you limitless varieties of opportunity to do anything you want.

humanities for sure- ive heard columbia has the upper hand here

Stanford is better

Do you want to be in the middle of a city? That is a HUGE difference. Stanford is somewhat isolated, which allows for a stronger sense of community on campus. Campus parties are all, well, on campus. A lot of people go to the parties because there aren't tons of other clubs around. At Columbia, I'd imagine a lot of the social scene takes place off campus. Are you sure you can handle living in NYC? It seems that the big city vs. suburb is a big difference. I personally love visiting NYC but I'm not sure I'd want to live there, at least not during my college years. I used to really want to go to Columbia, but I visited and realized that as much fun as it was to visit the city I didn't think I wanted to go to school there for four years.

Columbia also has their core. Do you want a core? Do you want to study what's in the core? Even Stanford's IHUM and PWR offerings allow you to have some choice. Sure you have to take the classes, but at least you can try to ensure that you will get one of the classes that is more interesting to you.

One thing to consider: although NYC does have a lot more opportunities in terms of internships, etc. what is the chance that you will actually take advantage of them during the year? During the school year you'll be very busy with classes, activities, etc.

Stanford has very strong humanities programs as well. I don't think the relative strenght of programs should be what you use to make your choice. The two schools offer very different experiences. It is (as usual) all about trying to find the school that is the right fit for you.

I don't know Stanford well..but I heard that Columbia's only charming point is being in NYC..My cousin went to there, and transferred to NYU because he hated the place. Especially, he didn't like the professors.

my sister had to make the same decision and chose stanford. she said that the eviroment and humanites are much better @ stanford!

Don't make a mistake

Stanford ALL THE WAY.

no questions asked.

post this same thread on columbia's forum and you'll get the same biased opinions except from the other perspective. here we all LOOOOVE STANFORD. but where will YOU be happier if acadmeics are equally good?

Here's a different bias:
Humanities-NYC has a huge draw there especially since you'll be in sucha diverse environment. true, like marlgirl said, stanford has a better community feel but columbia has the entire city of NYC to draw upon.

a-nicte: most folks here are stanford jokers with names creating stories to confuse people and lie. last posting chitty bang is suggesting stanford here. she her slef is mposting stanford vs penn BFS in other posting. Some will say that they had sister with similar issue but picked stanford. They all must be cooked stories to confuse you. Stanfor dloses to ivy kids( east coast) big time.only CA kids those who want to stay in CA typically let go IVY( not all).
Stanord may do 50/50 among CA cross admits, elsewhere it 20% stanford.
So watch out.

Both Stanford and Columbia have excellent Journalism courses. Stanford for its prominet communication while Columbia for its graduate school of journalism, I'm just confused~

its east coast or west coast.

west coast is the best coast
