I am a senior applying to colleges this year. I am applying early to Yale, and will apply regular to Stanford and a bunch of other colleges. If i do get admission into both Yale and Stanford, I feel that I will be torn between the two. I am very interested in biochemistry. Ihave heard that Stanford's biology program is ranked as #1 in the country, whereas Yale does not share the same reputation in the sciences. As an undergraduate, would I be missing out on a great science education I would receive at Stanford if i choose Yale instead? Can anyone give me the pros and cons of each. Thanks

You will get an excellent education in Biology whichever you choose. People don't say "Biology!" when they hear "Yale," but it has the resources and professors to match Stanford. Actually, you'd get comparable education if you went to Swarthmore, UC Rochester, UC Berkeley, or any generally top-ranked school. It's the same material, and the difference in the degree of greatness will be slight.

The schools are both gorgeous, prestigious, filled with motivated students and brilliant teachers. Base your decision on who gives you better financial aid.

I agree, Stanford is definitely a standout for science. Yale still has top programs, but Stanford is just stronger. Where are you from? I'm asking because if you're from the east coast, you'll have a huge advantage applying to Stanford early. If not, don't worry about it, Yale is still Yale.

Yale has superb departments in biological sciences - its top ten in most areas. At the undergraduate level you will receive the same education and the same research opportunities at both Yale and Stanford. You should choose the school at which you feel you would be happier. Since you are from california, I think it might be a good idea to at least get out of the state for a few years to get a different view, but that is just opinion.

what about for biomedical engineering? and does yale have the same connections, programs, and reputations that stanford has to get its students scientific/engineering interships??
