***Stanford Waitlist Thread 2019***

Hi everyone,

I was waitlisted at Stanford yesterday, and I thought that we should start a thread! I filled out the waitlist form, but have not received a confirmation email as applicants from past years have (and it’s not in my spam box either). Did anyone receive a confirmation email?

*Btw, you guys are awesome for even getting as far as the waitlist! I know that whatever happens, we’ll always be accomplishing amazing things and going very far in life!

S was waitlisted. Stanford was/is his dream school, but at this point he’s leaning towards not joining the waitlist. Over the last few years the movement from waitlist to acceptance has been nearly zero. It seems pointless to keep the flame alive by joining the list. He’s already accepted into Pomona, Berkeley, Reed, and the University of Oregon Honors. Waiting on the Ivy schools.

Stanford was my dream school too, but I got waitlisted as well. I know in 2012 & 2013, they didn’t use the waitlist, but last year they accepted a few, so hopefully we’ll see that this year.

Being completely honest, I’m actually happy I even made it to the waitlist. Most of my friends were rejected, and I was definitely expecting a rejection after not getting into Berkeley, so this was a nice surprise.

I know many of you are probably sad, but just like maryleanne said, even getting on the waitlist for Stanford is still pretty amazing.

From what I’ve heard in the past they basically use the waitlist as quota filler, so unless you’re in a specific minority group the odds of being admitted are essentially nil. As much as it hurts I’ve decided to just give up on it and focus on my other schools. Congrats to everybody that made it this far! You’re all brilliant enough to be successful wherever you go.

I was waitlisted too, but at this point, I’m not even sure whether or not to accept a spot. Stanford was always secretly my #1 but I didn’t get my hopes up too high since it is STANFORD after all. I got into some pretty amazing schools, but Stanford is dream (awesome weather, great location, beautiful campus, amiable environment, etc.) Oh well…I guess it just wasn’t meant to be. Good luck to you all if you choose to keep the flame burning, waiting even longer is gonna be tough.

Seeing how popular Stanford has become, getting off the waitlist is definitely a long shot. I’m expecting the yield this year to be higher than last year’s, but who knows, we might still have a chance.

I was completely shocked I was waitlisted. I had terrible SAT and ACT scores (well compared to everyone else on this godforsaken website) and I wrote my essays about a day or two before it was due (I’m a procrastinator. Sue me.). Tbh, I didn’t really want to go to Stanford for a long while. It wasn’t until the interview with the alum that I realized how amazing the school is.

Anyway, I’m super happy though. I accepted a spot on the waitlist immediately just in case. Hopefully they’ll select a handful of us or maybe an armful.

Good luck to everyone who is still waiting on college admission decisions! And congrats for making it onto Stanford’s waitlist. That’s so flippin’ amazing! Ya’ll rock whether you were accepted/declined/waitlisted.

@DiscoWorms‌ I wrote my 3 essays 4 hours before the deadline and I got in. I was lucky to have the idea :stuck_out_tongue:

@DiscoWorms‌ Did you receive a confirmation email regarding your Waitlist Response Form?

@maryleanne I joined the waitlist as well and received confirmation from admission.stanford@stanford.edu a few minutes after submitting.

From my cursory observation it seems they waitlisted quite a few minority candidates? Ya feel?

@maryleanne Yeah. Like a few minutes after I accepted it, I got a confirmation email.

I’m in the same boat as the rest of you guys! Found out I was waitlisted today

With tomorrow the deadline on acceptances, any intelligence out there on what chances a candidate on the waitlist has?

sorry to disappoint, but it doesn’t seem like there are many (if any) spaces this year…we just got an email that stanfords opening up more housing options due to the unexpectedly high yield for class of 2019

This was also announced today on the Facebook group for admitted students, though not by anyone official. Students there are speculating that this may be the year Stanford’s yield surpasses Harvard’s. Nothing about this unexpectedly high yield yet in the Stanford Daily, though, so if you’re on the waitlist, there may still be some hope.

Yeah they decided to make another dorm that is usually upperclass now 4 class and open to some freshman, so who knows they might need to fill a few extra freshman spots.

The Stanford Daily now has an article about housing and the higher-than-expected yield this year:

http://www.stanforddaily.com/2015/05/05/draw-re-opened-after-high-yield-from-class-of-2019/

They are changing a few dorms around because they already have more freshman than they can house in the existing freshman housing. The yield was higher than expected so it seems very unlikely that they will be using the wait list

Just got a rejection in my email.

Dear ******,

Thank you for accepting your place on the Stanford waitlist. We had a very strong response to our initial offers of admission, and it is with regret that I write to let you know we will not be able to offer you a place in the incoming freshman class.

Thank you for the hard work and outstanding potential your application represents. You have our very best wishes for your college education.
