Hey everyone,

Stanford University put me on the waitlist. I know, I can't believe it either, I thought it would be flat out rejection. UCLA and UCB have accepted me and I'm almost positive I want to go to UCLA and stay in So Cal with friends, family and my nonprofit organizations.

So I want to start looking for an apartment in Santa Monica/Westwood and begin settling in L.A., send in trasncripts, etc. All the things it takes to really commit to a school and future.

But if I wait for Stanford's decision it may be another 2 months which would put me way behind regarding settling down for UCLA.

I'll obviously be making my decision soon but some constructive advice from the CC crowd would be greatly appreciated.

Firstly, congratulations.

SIR UCLA

Fill out necessary paperwork as if you were going to go to UCLA

Wait 2 months
a. Get accepted
b. Get rejected
If a is true, call UCLA and cancel your admission. Lose $100.
If b is true, frame your wait list to Stanford, go to UCLA, be awesome at life.

what whatasunnyday said…

and

Congrats thenotsolongshot ;)!!!

definitely Sir Both

Stanford is beyond awesome if you’ve ever been there and definitely wait for them

Thanks everyone. I just don’t want to have an apartment, classes, UCLA gear and everything set up by mid-July then have to uproot for Palo Alto.

20/1400 accepted, 20 on the waitlist. So less than 2% have a chance. Stanford’s transfer acceptance rate is painfully and unbelievably low, lower than Harvard and Yale. Blech.

Congrats what is your major again?

Double major: philosophy and physics, minor in creative writing.

Harvard doesn’t accept transfer apps. Same with Princeton.

Harvard used to but stopped last year.

cooldude6

right. so it doesn’t :)

@smartpants: actually they restarted again this year =)

@thelongshot: wait a bit before buying the gear but get classes and an apartment (make sure it’s one you can sub-let) If Stanford ends up accepting you, rent the apartment out to someone else instead of cancelling the contract and go to Stanford. If not, definitely frame the waitlist letter and head off to buy UCLA gear.

Be careful with that waitlist before you frame it. My sister spilled a little bit of coffee on the top part of my UC Berkeley acceptance that I was gonna frame. The worst part? My sister doesn’t even drink coffee. Don’t ask me how it happened. It just happened.

Congrtassssss you deserve it

by “this year” you mean Fall 2010 applicants for Fall 2011 academic year?

@smartpants: by this year I mean the application was due sometime March 2010 for Fall 2010 admittance…there’s a thread about it.
